The 2018 vintage of this wine delivers all that is promised by a bottle bearing the name A. Clape. An outstanding pair of scores from Josh Raynolds (Vinous) and the foremost Rhône critic in the world Jeb Dunnuck are confirmation that Auguste has done what he does best. Raynolds admire the "powerful yet lively in character" 2018, which delivers a "solid finishing thrust" - 96-97 points was his verdict at this early stage in its life.

Dunnuck is equally impressed, noting that this particular offering from Cornas' finest shows "more opulence and decadence than most recent vintages". A tentative 94-96+ points could well be improved upon after some bottle age for a wine he describes as having "more than a touch of greatness".

Producer

Auguste Clape has made exceptional wine in the Northern Rhone for over 50 years. He is a master of traditional wine making, doing more than anyone for the Cornas name. Now in his 80s and aided by his son, the wine is better than ever with greater depth and complexity. Some of his Petit Syrah vines are over 100 years old.
