Beaucastel

Château de Beaucastel's Châteauneuf-du-Pape is predominantly Grenache and Mourvèdre, with a range of other grape varieties (including white grapes). This is one of the best values at the top end of the appellation. Although not formally scored by the critics yet, 2019 looks from the estate’s notes to be an exceptionally strong release. The Châteauneuf-du-Pape Blanc is mainly Roussanne supported by Grenache Blanc. There is also a varietal Roussanne Vieilles Vignes from a tiny 3 ha parcel planted in 1901. Beaucastel has only 7ha of white vines, and hence the whites are made in much smaller quantities. The 2019 scores a wonderful 95 points from Jeb Dunnuck who calls it “classic”. The Côtes-du-Rhone Coudoulet de Beaucastel is always a full-bodied Côtes-du-Rhone with a mineral character and is exceptional value for money. The 2019 is clearly going to be a hugely popular wine.
