Calon Segur 2021 (3x150cl)
|
2021 |
Calon Segur 2021 (3x150cl) Vinous - Neal Martin (95-97)The 2021 Calon Ségur was cropped at 36hL/ha and aged entirely in new oak for a planned 20 months. This year, the gap between the Grand Vin and the Marquis is blatantly obvious, to the extent that they are practically different wines, which is how Vincent Millet and his team treat them. The Cabernet is firmly in the driving seat here, with detailed, graphite-infused black fruit and a background florality that comes through with aeration. The medium-bodied palate displays very fine tannins, superb acidity (pH 3.65) and impressive harmony. This has exemplary build in the mouth, fine weight on the finish and a persistent aftertaste. An outstanding Calon-Ségur, elevated by the risks taken in de-leafing in June and waiting to pick. Bravo. 12.9% alcohol

Clos Floridene 2021 (12x75cl)
|
2021 |
Clos Floridene 2021 (12x75cl) Vinous - Neal Martin (91-93)The 2021 Clos Floridene has a perfumed, incense-tinged bouquet of light tobacco and undergrowth aromas and decent fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, pretty red fruit and a beautifully balanced, cohesive finish. This is how to do 2021 without having to push too hard.

Clos Floridene Blanc 2021 (12x75cl)
|
2021 |
Clos Floridene Blanc 2021 (12x75cl) Decanter (93)Bright and lively in the glass, tangy and sharp but so well balanced with intensity yet softness, getting the liveliness and energy but also complexity of flavour - lemon, pineapple, apricot and peach - sharp, almost sour, so tangy and zesty in the glass just shining brightly. This is extremely aromatic and flavourful with a persistence that lasts the whole way through. I also like the really soft honeyed lemon touch that runs underneath the more overt acidity. A solid effort. Tasted twice.

Cos d'Estournel 2021 (1x150cl)
|
2021 |
Cos d'Estournel 2021 (1x150cl) Jane Anson Inside Bordeaux (96)This vintage, which can be overly straight and austere, benefits from the house style of Cos, where they are happy to add a twist of gourmet glamour, and I am seriously impressed with this wine. It showcases the successful sides of a cool vintage in spades, with bitter black chocolate, cool blue fruits, lemongrass and turmeric and black pepper spices. 55% new oak. 3.79ph. 53% of overall production is for the 1st wine, the rest in Pagodes. Easily one of the wines of the vintage.

Cos Labory 2021 (6x75cl)
|
2021 |
Cos Labory 2021 (6x75cl) Vinous - Antonio Galloni (91-93)The 2021 Cos Labory is a wild, eccentric wine. Dark red/purplish fruit, spice, leather, tobacco and incense lend quite a bit of nuance. There's good depth and plenty of character, but also some slightly rough contours that could use a bit of polishing up. The aromatics in particular feel a bit disassociated.

De Pez 2021 (12x37.5cl)
|
2021 |
De Pez 2021 (12x37.5cl) Jancis Robinson (17)Rather sumptuous nose. Fleshy, almost sweet – certainly many steps taken to ensure this is not too austere. Good drive and excellent delivery of ripe fruit. Underneath there is the stoniness of the appellation and I assume that Montrose, for example, is more concentrated and will live longer but this is a pretty successful wine. Fresh, long finish. Good stuff! Very nicely balanced.

Haut-Marbuzet 2021 (12x75cl) Vinous - Antonio Galloni (92-94)The 2021 Haut-Marbuzet is another fabulous wine from the Duboscq family. Potent and layered, with terrific precision, Haut-Marbuzet is loaded with personality. Red-fleshed fruit, blood orange, hard candy, mint and rose petal come alive in the glass. The 2021 possesses striking inner sweetness and terrific balance. I loved it.
