(Maison) Louis Jadot Chablis 1er Cru Fourchaume 2021 (6x75cl) Jancis Robinson (16)Cask sample. Quite sweet and ripe on the nose. I’m not sure I would pick this as a Chablis blind! Really quite rich with a streak of green and it finishes rather suddenly. It certainly has weight… A big Chablis.

|
2021 |
(Maison) Louis Jadot Chambertin Grand Cru 2021 (3x75cl) Vinous (93-95)The 2021 Chambertin Grand Cru offers a touch more complexity and nuance than the Clos-de-Bèze with red berry fruit, orange rind, crushed stone and wilted rose petals. It's a little more delineated and focused. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, again, quite creamy in texture with a bit of new oak on the finish (though there is a prudent use of new wood - one new barrel out of three). Quite seductive, this should age well in bottle, though afford it four to five years at least.

2021 |
(Maison) Louis Jadot Volnay 1er Cru Clos de la Barre 2021 (6x75cl) Vinous (91-93)The 2021 Volnay Clos de la Barre 1er Cru is well-defined on the nose with raspberry, cranberry and red plum. It's more withdrawn than the Santenots by comparison. The palate is medium-bodied with ripe dark berry fruit laced with white pepper and bay leaf. With impressive focus on the finish, this fans out nicely and suggests that it will age as well as the Santenots. Excellent.

|
2021 |
Albert Bichot Domaine Long-Depaquit Chablis Grand Cru Moutonne 2021 (6x75cl) Vinous (91)The 2021 Chablis La Moutonne Grand Cru is showing some reduction on the nose, although there seems to be some decent fruit behind it. The palate is well balanced with a fine thread of acidity, lemon zest and a touch of tangerine, lightly spiced towards the finish that fans out nicely. This is a decent effort in a difficult growing season. Tasted blind at the BIVB tasting in Chablis.

Anne Gros Vosne-Romanee 1er Cru Les Barreaux 2021 (6x75cl) Vinous (90-92)The 2021 Vosne-Romanée Les Barreaux offers dark berry fruit on the nose, a touch of wild thyme and hints of rosemary. The palate is smooth and caressing, fine tannins, redcurrant and wild strawberry with a dab of black pepper on the finish. One of the more successful wines from the Domaine - a treat. Four barrels produced.

Arlaud Bourgogne Rouge Roncevie 2021 (6x75cl) Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (87-89)A fine even purple. A nose of charm and delicious, adequately ripe, dark red fruit. Energetic fruit, with a touch of sandalwood, tightly wound with quite high acidity. Just slightly dry at the finish, though compensated by surprising length. Drink from 2024-2026.

2021 |
Arlaud Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru 2021 (6x75cl) Vinous (94-96)The 2021 Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru is a little more "gourmand" on the nose, cohering with time in the glass, loamy, almost peaty aromas emerge with time. The palate is medium-bodied with finely-honed tannins. Lovely symmetry here, with a slight creaminess in texture towards the finish, where it feels very persistent. This is a lovely Charmes-Chambertin that should evolve wonderfully in bottle.

2021 |
Benjamin Leroux Batard-Montrachet Grand Cru 2021 (1x150cl) Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (93-96)A fresh pale colour. Quite a discreet bouquet. 1 x 300 litre barrel, half the usual volume and a third of what is allowed. Distinction though, as the fruit begins slowly to emerge. Very graceful, not the deepest on the market, a little lemon scent, correct acidity with a light mineral touch. This is a fine wine which should blossom with time. Drink from 2028-2035.

Bernard & Thierry Glantenay Bourgogne Rouge 2021 (6x75cl)

2021 |
Bernard & Thierry Glantenay Bourgogne Rouge 2021 (6x75cl) Vinous (85-87)The 2021 Bourgogne Rouge, taken directly from the vat, sported quite a heavy reduction on the nose. The palate is medium-bodied with quite firm tannins, strict and quite serious, and ample weight on the finish. I suspect it will shave its edges by the time of bottling.

|
2021 |
Bernard Dugat-Py Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru 2021 (6x75cl) Burghound (92-95)Here the more reticent nose isn’t as elegant though it is more complex with its layered blend of red and dark pinot fruit, anise and discreet earth and floral wisps. The supple and highly seductive medium weight flavors possess excellent depth and persistence on the mildly austere finale. This is already appealing and several years of cellaring should only enhance its attractiveness.

|
2021 |
Berthaut Vosne-Romanee 1er Cru Les Petits Monts 2021 (6x75cl) Vinous (93-95)The 2021 Vosne-Romanée Les Petits-Monts 1er Cru was fermented in concrete instead of stainless steel in order to lessen reduction, though there is still a little on the nose. Nevertheless, one can discern the precise red cherries and crushed strawberry aromas, that distinctive floral touch. The palate is medium-bodied with filigree tannins, exquisite balance and quite a sustained, understated, slightly gourmand finish that lingers long in the mouth.
