Comte Georges de Vogue Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru 2021 (1x75cl)
|
2021 |
Comte Georges de Vogue Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru 2021 (1x75cl) Vinous (93-95)The 2021 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru now comes from a small 0.2-hectare parcel of vines under 25-years old, tucked just below the Musigny Blanc. So there are now just two barrels. It has a beautifully-defined bouquet, much more complex in fact, than the Les Amoureuses with vivid blackberry, raspberry and mineral scents. The palate is very well balanced with saturated tannins, slightly granular in texture with real depth and grip towards the elegant finish. Stylish.

Comte Georges de Vogue Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Amoureuses 2021 (1x75cl)
|
2021 |
Comte Georges de Vogue Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Amoureuses 2021 (1x75cl) Vinous (92-94)The 2021 Chambolle-Musigny Les Amoureuses 1er Cru, reduced to three barrels (see producer profile) has a fragrant bouquet with ebullient red fruit, hints of cassis, iris and peony. Very fine definition and focus. The palate is medium-bodied with velvety tannins and fine acidity. This is a strict and linear Amoureuses, pure, yet maybe missing the flamboyance that a more benevolent season would bestow. Moderate length. Give it 3-5 years in bottle.

Comte Georges de Vogue Chambolle-Musigny 2021 (3x75cl)
|
2021 |
Comte Georges de Vogue Chambolle-Musigny 2021 (3x75cl) Vinous (88-90)The 2021 Chambolle-Musigny Village comes mainly from a large parcel in Porlettes with 10% from Les Fuées and Baudes. This was co-fermented instead of blended at the end of the barrel maturation; that was the modus operandi under François Millet. It is the only cuvée that does not include whole clusters. It has a clean and precise bouquet with dark cherries, hints of iodine and iris flower. The palate is tensile and light, well focused with an understated, open blackberry and raspberry finish, a touch of black pepper on the aftertaste. Fine.

Dujac Chambolle-Musigny 2021 (6x75cl)
|
2021 |
Dujac Chambolle-Musigny 2021 (6x75cl) Burghound (88-91)There is just reduction present to blur the nuances of the underlying fruit. More interesting are the very fresh and super-sleek middleweight flavors that possess fine intensity while exhibiting ample minerality on the lingering and youthfully austere finale. This is a Chambolle of contrasts as the lacy mid-palate is markedly different from the borderline rustic finale

Faiveley Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Charmes 2021 (6x75cl)
|
2021 |
Faiveley Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Charmes 2021 (6x75cl) Vinous (90-92)The 2021 Chambolle-Musigny Charmes 1er Cru has an uncomplicated bouquet with sous-bois infused red fruit, just a little diffuse at first though I find it coheres with aeration. Airy. The palate is medium-bodied with crunchy red berry fruit, fine acidity, a little brusqueness towards the finish but I appreciate the underlying pepperiness courtesy of the stem addition.

2021 |
Felettig Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Charmes 2021 (6x75cl) Burghound (91-93)An airy and perfumed nose features notes of spice, red currant and a lovely array of floral nuances. There is excellent vibrancy to the solidly concentrated and unusually powerful medium-bodied flavors that are also quite compact on the lingering and balanced finale. Once again, this is firmly austere and a wine that will need at least half a dozen years of keeping first.

Felettig Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Combottes 2021 (6x75cl)
|
2021 |
Felettig Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Combottes 2021 (6x75cl) Burghound (90-93)Moderate reduction is enough to push the fruit to the background at present. More interesting are the finer but less concentrated medium weight flavors that exude a lovely bead of minerality on the linear, moderately austere and strikingly long and slightly less structured finale. This offers a very different expression compared to the Lavrottes even if they are qualitatively similar.

|
2021 |
Ghislaine Barthod Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Aux Beaux Bruns 2021 (6x75cl) Vinous (91-93)The 2021 Chambolle-Musigny Aux Beaux Bruns 1er Cru has an attractive nose, a mélange of red and black fruit, sous-bois, crushed stone and rose petals. It displays more vigour than the Chambolle-Charmes. The palate is medium-bodied with crunchy red cherry and strawberry fruit, desiccated orange peel and white pepper. Not complex yet it demonstrates more length than some of the other cuvées.

2021 |
Ghislaine Barthod Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Cras 2021 (6x75cl) Burghound (91-94)An exuberantly spicy nose freely displays its cool and pretty aromas of plum, black cherry and violet. The moderately rich and impressively intense larger-scaled flavors possess excellent volume as well as an almost pungent minerality that adds a sense of lift to the markedly austere, compact and built-to-age finale. This could use more depth, but the Barthod Les Cras always seems to age extremely well

The palate is medium-bodied with succulent tannins, vivacious and focused with lively red fruit and an exuberant finish that is very convincing. This Gruenchers transcends the growing season. Sublime.

Hudelot-Noellat Chambolle-Musigny 2021 (6x75cl) Decanter (92)This exemplary village-level Chambolle has more stuffing than many, with ripe plummy fruit and notes of earth and mineral. The structure is firm and tannic and shows the vintage's freshness, drawing the wine to a stunning, elegant conclusion. The grapes come from 11 parcels totaling 0.85 hectares in a selection of lieux-dits scattered throughout the village, including Les Cras, Les Nazoires, Les Condemennes, and others. The grapes are mostly destemmed, slowly fermented on native yeasts over 18 days, and will be aged in mainly used barrels over two winters.

Louis Jadot (Gagey) Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Baudes 2021 (6x75cl) Vinous (91-93)The 2021 Chambolle-Musigny Les Baudes 1er Cru has a composed bouquet with brambly red fruit, orange rind, sous-bois and light tobacco scents. It's refined and focused. The palate is very well balanced with a welcome edginess on the entry. Quite a nervy Chambolle, and I appreciate that. Plenty of mineralité comes through on the finish. This is very enticing.

Louis Jadot Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Fuees 2021 (6x75cl) Vinous (90-92)The 2021 Chambolle-Musigny Les Fuées 1er Cru shows more reduction than the Les Baudes, and consequently, I find this warm and more difficult to read. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins, more sorbet-like than the Les Baudes and slightly candied towards the finish but without quite the same pedigree. However, it should still drink well for a number of years.

Now, unlike the Les Seuvrées, this absorbs the stems with much greater ease. Vibrant red fruit and touches of wild mint and fennel. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, fresh and focused, maybe it lacks a bit of grip and substance but there is ample tension that should ensure this ages with style.

Robert Groffier Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Sentiers 2021 (3x75cl) Vinous (90-92)The 2021 Chambolle-Musigny Les Sentiers 1er Cru comes from Cordon-Royat-trained 80-year-old vines that encountered a lot of frost. Raised in 40% new oak, this has a tightly-wound bouquet that unfurls with redcurrant, cranberry and light blood orange scents. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins that frame the tensile red fruit; citrus fresh with a pleasant bitterness lending energy on the finish. Drink this fine Chambolle over the next 12-15 years.
