Burgundy 2022 En Primeur: Blue Skies Over Beaune, Verdant Vines In Vosne
After the unusually cold and small-yielding 2021, the 2022 vintage swung back to what we might consider the “new norm”. With an overall abundance of warmth and sunshine, timely rainfall in June and August helped to balance out any effects of the heat. Early impressions tell a story of wines in general produced with more richness and concentration than their predecessors, with the best of them retaining all important freshness and disarming equilibrium.
Jasper Morris is the first critic to release the 2022 vintage report. He praised the vintage as "bountiful and beautiful" and recommends collectors to consider cellaring the wines.
"Vintages that came to mind were 1985 for the health of the grapes, 1999 for the size of the crop and the relative consistency of quality though with a bias towards the Côte de Beaune, and 2002 – just short of top flight but a really lovely flavour profile of medium density and longevity." Jasper Morris MW, Inside Burgundy
"All other things being equal, I would recommend going large in 2022, large in the sense of a broad range because there are so many really good wines at all levels." Jasper Morris MW, Inside Burgundy

Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (93-96)The 2022 Puligny Pucelles shows a fresh pale clear colour. The nose here is more austere, more in fresh limestone. It starts in quite a restrained fashion but then the pure fruit intensifies magically towards the back of the palate, never becoming too fleshy and all held in place by the backbone of steel. Excellent tension throughout. Drink from 2027-2036. |

Parent Pommard 1er Cru Les Chanlins 2022 is a finely chiselled red from France’s Burgundy, in Pommard, sourced from the Premier Cru climat “Les Chanlins”, prized for its stony, well-drained soils and naturally low-vigour Pinot Noir. Produced by Domaine Parent, one of Pommard’s reference estates, it is shaped by meticulous vineyard work and a rigorously selective approach at harvest, aiming for purity of fruit and site transparency. Vinification is carried out with great precision to preserve aromatic definition, followed by élevage in French oak to frame, rather than mask, the wine’s underlying mineral tension. The 2022 vintage delivers Pommard’s signature savoury depth: black cherry and damson fruit, rose petal, iron-tinged earth and subtle spice, with a firm, finely grained tannic spine and a long, saline finish. Decant young or cellar confidently. |
