The 2011 Clos de la Roche has a wonderful, vibrant, generous bouquet that is actually more akin to a Bonnes-Mares with its precocious, effervescent red fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins on the opening, supple in the mouth, well-balanced with great precision on the finish. This is one of the best 2011s from Louis Jadot. Drink 2014-2026.

Tasted blind at the Burgundy 2011 horizontal tasting in Beaune. The Richebourg 2011 has a more extravagant, bold, multilayered bouquet with blackberry, wild strawberry, hints of undergrowth and light marine influences coming in to play: very complex. The palate still has some unresolved oak on the entry, but there is great tension and vibrancy here, the tannins fine and lending this great tension. I would not broach a bottle now because there is so much to give in the future. Just like in the blind Amoureuses tasting in Holland, here Bichot proves itself as one of the top-flight producers. Bravo!

100% new oak. Not the flash appeal of the Clos de Bèze and it's so much more youthful but it’s a huge success in 2011. Chewy end and more muscular but it’s all there for the taking – except that it’s a bit tighter than Clos de Bèze so may be better to concentrate on the latter for the moment. Vibrant and resonant.

Red stone fruits, plums, menthol, rose petals and spices take shape nicely in the 2011 Charmes-Chambertin. In 2011, the Charmes-Chambertin is a bit savory and herbal, but it otherswise shows lovely balance and terrific overall depth in a pliant, mid-weight style that is best enjoyed over the next 10-15 years.

Good deep red with ruby highlights. Dark raspberry and licorice on the nose, complicated by musky herbs, menthol, leather and game. Then less sweet and more medicinal in the mouth than the Lavaux, displaying distinctly darker flavors. In a more masculine style, finishing with tougher tannins. The vines here average 55 years of age, making them the oldest of the estate.

Good deep red-ruby. Cool aromas and flavors of raspberry, red cherry and crushed rock lifted by pepper and herbs. Pure, juicy and precise if a bit youthfully imploded, but already showing terrific sappy intensity. Finishes very long and perfumed, with a serious tannic spine. Promises to be Lachaux's best vintage yet for this cuvee, which he initiated with the 2008 after purchasing these old vines from Christopher Newman.

Bright, dark red. Wild aromas of black fruits, licorice, violet, bitter chocolate and Oriental spices, plus a whiff of leather. Dense, suave and firmly built, showing a distinctly sappy quality to the complex flavors of black fruits, spices and minerals. The energetic, very long finish features suave, firm tannins and bright lingering notes of spices and violet. Vinous - Stephen Tanzer (94-96)

(50% vendange entier; two-thirds new oak): Bright, dark red. Captivating nose combines raspberry, red licorice, iron, dried rose, mocha and minerals. all lifted by a high-pitched floral quality. Wonderfully juicy, intense and delineated, showing great energy but also considerable medicinal reserve. Silky and utterly weightless wine with great delicacy and outstanding balance. The rising, highly perfumed, extremely long aftertaste is like a wake-up call for the taste buds. The tannins here are remarkably suave.

Vinous (90-93)

(estate version; 13.8% natural alcohol): Bright dark red. Perfumed aromas of flowers, medicinal herbs, licorice and spices, with a suggestion of creme de cassis. Sweet, lush and very ripe, but showing less detail and energy today than the young Echezeaux. Finishes with round, sweet, very polished tannins and hints of chocolate and menthol. This wine includes a lower-than-normal percentage of juice from Bouchard's holding in the lower portion of the Clos as those vines were hit hard by coulure.

Vinous - Stephen Tanzer (89-91)

(from south-facing vines on the upper hillside, which features shallow top soil and a lot of limestone): Bright medium red. A pretty coulis of red fruits on the nose, given punch by rose petal, sexy brown spices and crushed stone. Tightly wound, even youthfully tough, with strong minerality contributing to an impression of inner-mouth tension. Lovely tangy red fruits here, complicated on the end by saline soil tones. From a massale selection planted in 1956--the same vines as the Fourneaux.
