Vinous - Stephen Tanzer (92-95)Medium red. Precise, scented nose combines red cherry, minerals, stones, iron and rose petal. Penetrating, minerally and precise, with vibrant flavors of red cherry and raspberry. Conveys a real small-berry depth and intensity of flavor and offers great energy and verve. Vinous - Stephen Tanzer (91-94)(this cuvee, the Clos de Beze and the Chambertin are aged in 100% new barriques Good bright red. Explosive, perfumed nose offers black raspberry, cassis, rose petal and spicy oak. Juicy, floral and aromatic in the mouth, with cassis and violet flavors that are sweetened but not overwhelmed by the new oak. Very dense, chewy, rich wine with superb persistence. This wine also showed a strong cassis character in vintages 1999 and 1996, notes Corinne. |

Wine Advocate (94)Boasting a nose of great ripeness and freshness, the 2003 Bonnes Mares offers aromas of waxy black fruits and spices. Medium to full-bodied, it resembles liquid silk in both its attack and mid-palate. Luxurious and sensual, this highly expressive wine coats the palate with black cherries and dark raspberries whose effects linger in its tannin-packed, slightly dry finish. Projected maturity: 2009-2020. |

Vinous - Stephen Tanzer (91-93)Bright, deep red. Enticing, nuanced aromas of black raspberry, mocha, game, iron and animal fur. Suave and silky, with nicely integrated acidity framing the sappy red fruit and torrefaction flavors. This shows lovely inner-mouth perfume and noteworthy complexity. Finishes with big, broad tannins and lingering red fruits. But does it have the classic thrust of great Chambertin? |

Wine Advocate (97)Violets, roses, raspberries, and red cherries emanate from the 2003 Richebourg. Full-bodied, deep, and hugely concentrated, it is muscular, firm and displays the firmest structure of the Domaine de la Romanee-Conti’s 2003s. Soy sauce, tar, chocolate, and dark fruits are found in its focused, audacious personality. Its impressively persistent finish is studded with highly present tannin. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2025. |

Vinous (97+)($3120) Good red-ruby. Knockout nose of black raspberry, tobacco and flowers; vibrant for 2003. Then dense, creamy and seamless yet almost shockingly vibrant, with outstanding balance and an impression of firm acids. In fact, this is the highest in acidity of these 2003s, with a pH of 3.5 (the rest are between 3.6 and 3.65, according to Villaine). The mounting finish goes on and on. Great wine, perhaps monumental. |

Vintage Tastings (93)There was one more Burgundy on our agenda, a 2003 Rouget Vosne Romanee Cros Parantoux. The Rouget had a deep, saucy, concentrated nose, again this grilled endive thing around a core of plum, cassis, soda and liqueur. It was a thick wine, and the second tasty 2003 Burg that I had had on this trip. It was really good, hedonistic and rich, long and concentrated, sweet and hearty, if anything a touch too sweet, but hey, that's 2003 (93). |
