Touted as “one of the best examples of the recent winemaking renaissance in Tuscany”, according to the Wine Spectator, Casanova di Neri Brunello di Montalcino Tenuta Nuova is always one of the pinnacle offerings from Brunello.

A wine of historical significance too, buyers may be interested to know that Tenuta Nuova is a pioneering cuvée in the region, crafted from the grapes of a single vineyard plot. Making its first stride in the world of fine wine in 1993, Tenuta Nuova represented years of painstaking research on soil and microclimate and remains a proud expression of a south/southeast facing, crushed-rock plot located at 250 to 300 meters above sea level.

Firmly cemented as one of the best iterations made by the Giacomo family, the 2015 Casanova di Neri Brunello di Montalcino Tenuta Nuova scores a whopping 99 points from James Suckling and a stunning 98+ points from Monica Larner of the Wine Advocate.

Displaying the “distinctive signature of this estate” in the words of Monica Larner, the 2015 flows with “seamless transitions”. From ever-changing and building intensity to its enormous staying power, this “extremely aromatic” wine offers an “endless mouth feel of caressing tannins, acidity and fruits” (JS). Coupled with an incredible structure that “sits firmly over the palate” (WA), the 2015 is destined for the long haul and will age most comfortably in the cellar for at least 25 years.

Producer

Casanova di Neri is always towards the top of the pack in every Brunello vintage. It is actually one of Italy’s most admired producers. The estate was founded by Giacomo Neri back in 1971. Still in the hands Giacomo and his family, they now cultivate 63 ha. of vines situated right in front of the pretty little town of Montalcino. A famous traditionalist in the region, the estate’s Sangiovese is both powerful and accessible.
