James Suckling (97)Lively and vibrant red fruits of wild strawberries and red cherries followed by rose hips, ground spices and a touch of citrus zest. Medium-bodied, finely grained velvety tannins with a delightful acid backbone. Zesty and layered wine with beautiful balance and complexity. It’s already enjoyable but will age gracefully. |

Jane Anson Inside Bordeaux (96)The 2nd vintage from the Cathiard's Napa estate, and it continues the high quality set by the more challenging 2020 vintage. Inky ruby colour, medium to full intensity, understated cassis and bilberry fruit that is concentrated but not showy, with ink, soot, campfire, espresso, cocoa bean, cassis, great stuff. Jancis Robinson (17.5)Gaiole. 100% Sangiovese. Certified organic. Deep crimson. Enticing, deep red-fruit nose with hints of white pepper and leather. Succulent red fruit, with the finely grained, plentiful tannins unfurling on the finish. |

Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (95-98)5 Star Wine. A rich dark purple. The nose is astonishing because of its definition. It is a slightly darker and certainly less lushly appealing style. Peppery notes are in balance but the volume of fruit surmounts. This is a fine and very noble example which could well leap ahead of the 2020 in the rankings. There is such a wealth of fruit, on the cusp of red and black, which returns in the very long finish. Bravo. Drink from 2030-2040. |

Vinous (93-95)The 2021 Vosne-Romanée Aux Brûlées 1er Cru has an exquisitely-delineated bouquet with black plum and raspberry fruit that unfold with each swirl of the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with a slightly flinty opening, compact, quite peppery with a deepening and rather grippy finish. There is something sultry about this Aux Brûlées, a Premier Cru that will repay 4-5 years in the cellar. |

Vinous (92-94)The 2021 Beaune Clos des Mouches Rouge 1er Cru is one of my picks from Drouhin this year. Wonderful, vivacious red fruit leap from the glass, hints of sous-bois and dried rose petal. The palate is beautifully balanced with fine mineralité, demonstrating more complexity than the preceding Beaune Cras with more grip on the finish. Superb. |

Jancis Robinson (17)Cask sample. Pale to mid garnet. Firm, well-integrated nose. Sweet start and quite substantial. I think this would show quite well in a blind tasting with its Clos de Vougeot peers. A trace of dry tannin on the end but that promises well for the future. Firm with a little sour-cherry flavour but quite majestic build – even if it’s not nearly as alluring as the Clos St-Jacques! |

Jeb Dunnuck (100)There are around 1,000 cases of the flagship 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon (the other releases are in the range of 150-200 cases), and if you see a bottle, you should buy it. Absolutely incredible aromatics of ripe black and blue fruits, tobacco leaf, espresso roast, and violets give way to a full-bodied, majestic, multi-dimensional wine that has ultra-fine tannins, no hard edges, and riveting purity, focus, and precision. Give bottles 4-5 years to integrate its oak, and this beauty will shine over the following two decades or more. |

Falstaff (100)Dark ruby red colour. Finely spicy on the nose, blackcurrants, fine earthy notes, plus a hint of dried rose petal, some cigar box. On the palate a fruity texture, entwined with hearty, juicy tannin, elegant flow, comes back long and juicy in the finish on fine spicy tones, still a bit young. |
