Very pale ruby indeed – an extremely distinctive pallor. Delicately sweet, fruity nose that would not be out of place in, say, Auxey-Duresses. Then a hint of gaminess and some light graininess that I associate with concrete. Wonderfully ethereal delicacy that positively dances on the palate. This seems absolutely ready now but has substance and persistence so should be no fly-by-night. Extremely playful, but be careful not to serve it with food that's too powerful. Not our merguez sausages planned for tonight, methinks. This would respond well to light chilling and shellfish or chicken.

David and Nadia Sadie's Grenache is made with fruit from three vineyards, with granite at the core of the wine. Light, floral, elegant and almost Pinot Noir like, with some texture and tobacco notes from 60% whole bunches, pomegranate and wild strawberry flavours and some underlying grip. 2022-27

The 2019 Grenache is taken from the top drawer. It has a pure, almost Pinot Noir–like bouquet of vivacious morello cherries, white strawberry and just a touch of baking powder. The palate is well balanced with crunchy red cherries on the entry and a lovely bitterness from start to off-dry finish that lends a real edge. But what I really like is the transparency of this Grenache (something you do not always find with this grape variety); it’s as if you can really feel the terroir. A finely crafted Grenache that should age with style.
