Domaine des Héritiers Louis Jadot Corton Pougets Grand Cru 2019 (6x75cl)
Les Pougets comprises of two parcels covering 9.7 hectares in Aloxe-Corton’s upper and mid-slope adjacent to Le Charlemagne. It is among the five vineyards of the commune in which the variegated chalk and iron rich marl soils produce both Corton- Pougets and Corton-Charlemagne. Domaine des Héritiers Louis Jadot is the proprietor of a due southerly exposed parcel of 1.20 hectares purchased in 1914.
The site yields a wine of brilliance and complexity, powerfully structured and richly fruited. The aromatic Pinot Noir bouquet and deep, layered berry and oak flavours culminate in a seductive, persistent finish.
The 2019 Corton-Pougets Grand Cru (Domaine des Héritiers Jadot) is excellent, unwinding in the glass with notes of cherries, plums, orange rind, dark chocolate, sweet spices and toasty new oak. Medium to full-bodied, fleshy and layered, it's deep and concentrated, with broad shoulders and rich, powdery structuring tannins. As usual, this is a fine proposition for the medium- to long-haul.

This domaine-owned parcel is a tradition at Jadot, who is one of the last to produce red Corton from this site. It is located mid-slope next to Le Charlemagne and most producers make white wine here. The grapes are destemmed and gently fermented to produce this bright, forward Corton which is completely unlike the slightly rustic reds of previous years. The texture is lovely, silky and very fine.

The 2019 Corton-Pougets Grand Cru was ever so slightly reduced on the nose, but opens with time to reveal quite intense black fruit laced with vanilla. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, very good weight and a fine bead of acidity. This conveys the most energy of the three Corton Grand Crus from Jadot that I tasted. Velvety texture on the finish. Lovely. Just one used barrel produced.

Cask sample. Transparent garnet. Very sweet and rich on the nose. Big. A biff between the eyes! Not nearly as subtle as the Corton Grèves. A bit tarty really in my view. And the tannins, acid and fruit are a long way from being integrated.
