A very refined, subtle and elegantly framed Grand Cru. Some creamy, smokey richness but the purity of golden apple and pear fruit is thoroughly compelling. Salty, zesty and moreish. Very ripe satsuma juice in the palate. I suspect there will never be a time when this is not totally delicious.

It began in the 1980s by the marriage of Richard Fontaine and Laurence Gagnard, today the domaine is run by father and daughter duo Richard and Celine Fontaine. Domaine Fontaine-Gagnard has seen a stratospheric rise in quality and acclaim over the last decade, excelling in the outstanding 2014 and 2017 vintages. The wines have a fantastic purity and minerality allied to a lovely weight and richness of fruit. This is a very smart and stylish domaine making some of the most sought-after wines from Chassagne-Montrachet, boasting a fantastic intensity of fruit which beautifully expresses their top-notch terroir.
