(just half of a normal crop made): Bright yellow. Slightly stunted aromas of stone and citrus fruits. Quite ripe in its deep yellow fruit flavors but given a distinctly penetrating quality by a surprising spine of minerality and fresh acidity. Vinous (93-95)
(tasted from barrel; the wine was scheduled to be racked the week after my visit) Restrained nose hints at candied citrus peel, flowers, vanilla and smoky lees. Taut and uncompromising, and less showy than the Genevrieres.Inc. VAT£397.32 -

(one-third new oak): Pale bright yellow. Classic aromas of lemon cream, minerals and sexy lees, along with subtle oak notes of char and coconut. (on its finings): Lemon-yellow color. Ripe peach, hazelnut and vanillin oak on the classic Meursault nose. Boasts a terrific combination of refined texture and outstanding inner-palate tension, showing the flavor intensity and verve to support a long and graceful evolution in bottle. (1x75cl) 2014Wine Advocate (95)
Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting, the 2014 Meursault 1er Cru Charmes from Comtes Lafon was not firing on all cylinders from barrel but clearly this is not the case now that the wine is in bottle. It demonstrated a subtle reduction on the nose with scents of dried quince complementing the citrus fruit, walnut and smoke aromas. The palate is well balanced with fine delineation, harmonious with notes of tangerine and orange zest, the oak nicely integrated with appreciable weight on the finish. Very fine, very sophisticated—this surpasses my expectations from barrel.Inc. VAT£734.39 -
Vinous - Neal Martin (95)
The 2015 Meursault Les Charmes 1er Cru is taut and linear, more reticent than the Clos de la Barre at the moment, yet it evolves in the glass and reveals a Perrières-like stoniness. The palate pivots around a silver bead of acidity with citrus peel and nectarine notes, demonstrating greater depth than its peers on the powerful finish. Superb! Vinous (93+)
(bottled the day before my visit; aged in 40% new oak): Complex, vibrant aromas of peach, orange zest and lemon accented by white pepper. Rich, ripe, tactile and sweet, with the intense citrus and stone fruit flavors accented by peppery spices and complicated by vanilla and leesy nuances. A very good showing today, but this is still a baby.In Bond£428.00 -

(6x75cl) 2012Vinous (94)
(one-third new oak): Pale bright yellow. Classic aromas of lemon cream, minerals and sexy lees, along with subtle oak notes of char and coconut. Mouthfilling and ripe but bright and sharply delineated, with harmonious acidity and underlying minerality giving the wine an urgent sappy quality. Really resounds on the palate-staining finish. In Bond£2,170.00 -

Finishes with outstanding lemon-zest cut and length. My style of Meursault, and downright electric in the context of the year.In Bond£413.00 -
(1x75cl) 2014Wine Advocate (95)
Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting, the 2014 Meursault 1er Cru Charmes from Comtes Lafon was not firing on all cylinders from barrel but clearly this is not the case now that the wine is in bottle. It demonstrated a subtle reduction on the nose with scents of dried quince complementing the citrus fruit, walnut and smoke aromas. The palate is well balanced with fine delineation, harmonious with notes of tangerine and orange zest, the oak nicely integrated with appreciable weight on the finish. Very fine, very sophisticated—this surpasses my expectations from barrel. In Bond£609.00 -
Vinous - Neal Martin (95)
The 2015 Meursault Les Charmes 1er Cru is taut and linear, more reticent than the Clos de la Barre at the moment, yet it evolves in the glass and reveals a Perrières-like stoniness. The palate pivots around a silver bead of acidity with citrus peel and nectarine notes, demonstrating greater depth than its peers on the powerful finish. Superb! Tasted at the 05/15 Burgundy dinner in The Good Earth. In Bond£383.00 -
(12x75cl) 2016Wine Advocate (95)
The 2016 Meursault 1er Cru Charmes is superb, unfurling in the glass with aromas of crisp peaches, apples, dried white flowers, honeycomb and oatmeal. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, satiny and pure, with a deep, concentrated and multidimensional core, vibrant acids and a long finish. There's plenty of tight-knit structure and dry extract here, so this should be a long-lived Charmes. In Bond£4,120.00 -

The 2018 Meursault 1er Cru Charmes is also showing very well, revealing aromas of pear, crisp yellow orchard fruit, fresh peach, almond paste and white flowers, followed by a medium to full-bodied, satiny and muscular palate that's deep, concentrated and structured, with more texture and a more introverted profile than the more expressive Genevrières. This is another great bottle in the making. In Bond£3,339.00
