Awarded 96 points by Aldo Fiordelli (Decanter), the 2013 vintage earned a well-deserved spot amongst the ranks of Decanter’s top-rated Brunello alongside regional behemoths like Biondi-Santi, Il Marroneto’s Madonna delle Grazie (a Riserva) and Padelletti just to mention a few. Of all the 2013 Brunellos (excluding Riservas) reviewed by Decanter, the highest score of 97 points (only one wine) with Il Poggione’s 2013 tying with just 3 other Brunellos on 96 points!

Finding “bright cassis notes, a core of cherry and crystallised violet, and savoury minerality on the finish” in the 2013 vintage, Aldo Fiordelli is confident the 2013 possesses enough structure to “keep the wine in good shape for the long haul”, recommending a massive drinking window out to 2043.

Producer

Tenuta Il Poggione is one of three original producers of Brunello di Montalcino. Their secret to producing great sangioviese is meticulous care for the vines, often thinning bunches and continually monitoring their health. Their practice of diversified agriculture means their wine is never short of character.
