Jancis Robinson (17.5)So fruity! Way more modern and ripe than their Villa Antinori Riserva. Entirely credible and with classic Chianti bite from zingy acid and firm tannin. |

Vinous (88)Freshly cut flowers, sweet spices and dark red cherries are all woven together in the 2011 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Castello di Brolio. Layered and silky on the palate, the 2011 offers good balance, even if the oak is a bit pronounced. Overall, this is a solid, if not particularly exciting wine. The Gran Selezione designation appears only on the back label, which strikes me as a curious choice. |

Vinous (90)The 2011 Chianti Classico Riserva is powerful and dense, with all of the natural richness of the year very much on display. Macerated cherry, leather, spice and tobacco fill out the wine's frame nicely. There is lovely depth to the 2011, but I also get the impression it will drink well relatively early for a Castell'in Villa wine. |

Vinous (92)Fontodi's 2014 Chianti Classico is one of the most finessed vintages of this wine in recent memory. The combination of the cool growing conditions and a move toward larger oak casks has resulted in a deep yet translucent wine of notable pedigree and class. There is plenty of the typical Panzano richness, but less of the overt weight that has characterized some recent vintages. |

Vinous (94)Black stone fruits, smoke, tobacco, incense and sweet spices jump from the glass in the 2011 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Vigna del Sorbo. The 2011 is going to need a few years for the baby fat to melt away. Today the flavors are ripe, dark and resonant, while the tannins are quite silky, but the best is yet to come. Even with all of its richness, the 2011 clocks in with acidity above 6%, which is virtually unheard of for a wine with this much dry extract, but, then again, we are talking about Sangiovese. |

Vinous (95+)A powerful, structured wine, the 2014 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Vigna del Sorbo won't be ready to drink for a number of years, much less be at its best. In recent years, the Sorbo has been much more forward, but the 2014 is decidedly austere and ungiving. Graphite, smoke, black cherry, plum and licorice notes infuse the dark, mysterious finish. |

Wine Advocate (93)The 2011 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Castello Fonterutoli is a standout wine and I prefer it to the 2012 vintage and the 2010 vintage (that I reviewed twice over the course of a year with divergent scores). Of these wines, this vintage offers the broadest sense of intensity and generosity. The wine is also distinguished by dark fruit and spice that stand tall with clear identities. The best fruit from the estate's various vineyard sites are selected for this wine. This careful selection process makes it possible to dedicate the best fruit to a wine like this despite varying vintage conditions. |

Vinous (88)The 2011 Chianti Classico is intense, deep, rich and layered, the 2011 graces the palate with concentrated sweet dark fruit. The style is deep exuberant but also nicely balanced. Dark red cherries, plums and smoke all meld together in the supple, inviting finish. Overall, the 2011 is a very pretty wine with plenty to offer, especially in the near term. Dark red cherries, plums, lavender and smoke all meld into the inviting finish. |
