The Roagna 2019 Barolo Rocche di Castiglione comes from a 0.49-hectare parcel that was purchased in 2016. The vineyards lay adjacent to Pira, thus opening the possibility for the Roagna family to buy this land. The vines average 50 years old, and the plan is to eventually have this wine join the Vecchie Viti series. Because this is only the fourth year of production, that remains a goal for the future. This distinctive site, one of my personal favorites in the Barolo appellation, always delivers special sharpness and linear focus. You get that here along with a very long finish. The wine has muscle, but it also shows supple roundness and ample fruit weight. This is a wine to watch.Inc. VAT£936.35 -

A blend of Chardonnay and Nebbiolo, the 2021 Langhe Bianco Solea offers a good deal intensity on the nose, with a light resinous feel and possibly a light oak influence in its notes of ripe pear, fresh peach, orange citrus, and resin. Salty and intense on the palate, it has a supple texture, but retains lovely focus and tension while having a good bit of depth. Drink 2024-2032.Inc. VAT£739.86 -

A plummy wine, with hints of cedar. Full-bodied, with fine tannins and a pretty plum and mineral aftertaste. Long and silky. Very fine, yet compacted and powerful. Solid as a rock. Brunate is always great in top years. Best after 2008. 350 cases made. -JSInc. VAT£2,354.81 -

The 2008 Barolo Brunate is beautifully balanced from start to finish. Freshly cut flowers, mint, licorice, hard candy and dark red fruit are layered in this utterly impeccable Barolo. Waves of fruit build toward a huge, dramatic finish supported by serious tannins, yet the Brunate remains one of the more understated wines here. The Brunate is all about length, weightless elegance and an elusiveness that is only matched by the greatest Burgundies. This is a dazzling effort. Readers should expect the Brunate to take the better part of a decade to become expressive. Following the Brunate over the course of several days was immensely rewarding. Anticipated maturity: 2018-2033.Inc. VAT£3,229.61 -

A rich, explosive wine, the 2009 Barolo Brunate hits the palate with masses of dark fruit, pine, menthol, wild herbs, cloves and new leather. Firm yet well-integrated tannins provide the backdrop for this stunning, structured Barolo. The 2009 Brunate has class and pure pedigree to burn. When I was younger, I didn't really get the Brunate, but as I have gotten older my appreciation for this wine has grown. This is one sexy Barolo from Roberto and Davide Voerzio.Inc. VAT£2,476.01 -

The 2010 Barolo Brunate is incredibly silky and polished in this vintage. Pine, menthol, licorice, black cherries and plums flesh out in a dark, gorgeous Barolo loaded with class and elegance. The Brunate can sometimes be a bit hulking in style, but in 2010 it is incredibly refined. The 2010 boasts striking depth, power and richness.Inc. VAT£611.20 -

A super-classic Roberto Voerzio wine, the 2013 Barolo Brunate is powerful yet translucent, with exceptional balance and tons of class. Dark red cherry, plum, spice, menthol and a host of balsamic-inflected overtones develop nicely in the glass. In 2013, the Brunate possesses good depth, while its customary power and structure emerges with notable reluctance. Simply put, the 2013 is a jewel of a wine.Inc. VAT£1,010.38 -

The 2014 Barolo Brunate is a powerhouse wine that is going to require at least a few years to shed some of its formidable tannin. Big and ample on the palate, with striking depth, the 2014 captures all of the virile intensity this site is known for. The black cherry, lavender, menthol, licorice and dark spice flavors take on shades of gravitas and exoticism in this deep, structured Barolo from Roberto Voerzio.Inc. VAT£905.52 -

Voerzio’s 2003 Barolo Riserva Vecchie Viti dei Capalot e delle Brunate is a dark, brooding wine with balsamic notes woven into its massive, powerful frame. Big, sweet and long, this massively concentrated, structured Barolo will require patience, but it clearly has enough stuffing and freshness to continue to develop positively for another fifteen years or so. The sumptuous 2004 Barolo Riserva Vecchie Viti dei Capalot e delle Brunate is fresh and vibrant, with layers of dark fruit that flow from the glass. As it sits, the balsamic, mentholated notes that are characteristic of this wine gradually emerge, along with an attractive spiciness that frames the fruit. It is a weighty, structured Barolo that will require patience, yet it is spectacular today. Anticipated maturity: 2009-2020.Inc. VAT£2,520.00 -

Voerzio’s 2007 Barolo Cerequio is a wonderful counter to the virile, imposing Brunate. Sweet red fruit, flowers and menthol are woven into a nuanced, textured fabric of notable class and elegance. The Cerequio possesses dazzling inner perfume, silky tannins and phenomenal length. It is a stunning, beautifully articulated Barolo blessed with tons of intensity and compelling overall balance. A final burst of red berries informs the long, explosive, perfumed finish. Anticipated maturity: 2017-2027.Inc. VAT£1,867.15 -

The 2013 Barolo Cerequio is soft, delicate and understated, with a creamy expression of fruit, silky tannins and exceptional overall balance. Sweet floral notes, bright red stone fruits, mint and cinnnamon give the wine its aromatic lift and presence. The only thing the 2013 is missing is the fruit intensity and exuberance of the very best years. Today, the Cerequio comes across as not fully formed and still recovering from its bottling about two months before this tasting. It will be interesting to see if more vineyard signatures develop over time.Inc. VAT£899.98 -

The 2014 Barolo Cerequio is a gorgeous wine that melds together the pliant fruit of Cerequio with bright, savory aromatics. It’s a combination that works so well. The 2014 is a marvelous, complete Barolo that has so much to offer. Macerated cherry, spice, new leather, blood orange and rose petal all flesh out in a striking Barolo that has so much to offer. One of the first wines I tasted from Voerzio was the 1992 Cerequio, a Barolo from a far weaker vintage that aged beautifully. I expect the 2014 will be gorgeous for many years to come. I can't wait to see how it ages.Inc. VAT£1,109.52 -

Gorgeous notes of black cherries, tobacco, and licorice emerge from the 2015 Barolo Cerequio, and this beauty is about as seamless and sexy as they come. More spice, toasted almonds, and dried flower notes develop with time in the glass, and it has magical tannins, medium-bodied richness, and a great, great finish. Give bottles 2-4 years and it’s going to impress for a good 2-3 decades.Inc. VAT£1,112.38
