This was a hot, dry vintage, and Fiano being a grape with lower acidity did not have the proper ageing potential to make a vintage wine. The Greco is fascinating, however, a broad spectrum of aromas like petrol and honey and rosewater. It’s unctuous and viscous on entry but a snap of freshness and minerality brings it back to form; silky with a slight toffee/caramel note and finishes whistle clean. The acidity here is truly impressive

Mastroberardino

Mastroberardino was established in the 1750’s by Pietro di Berardino.  He was awarded the title Mastro for his great winemaking and later adopted into the family name. This tradition of excellence is continued under the 10th generation. It is Campania’s most distinguished winery and widely considered the guardian of wine heritage from the Roman era; it is reintroducing vines to ancient sites around Pompeii and has nurtured local grapes from near extinction to success.
