Inglenook Cabernet Sauvignon 2018 (6x75cl)

Decanter (96)

One would be hard-pressed to find a more definitive showing of Rutherford Cabernet Sauvignon. Just enough oak-treatment apparent on the nose to add complexity, melting perfectly into the brooding, dark black fruits underneath. The palate is plush, forward and dusty with a subtle, snappy quality to the finish. It has become rare that the premier (and most expensive) wine from a Napa producer is not simply a bigger and riper iteration of other wines in the lineup. Such is not the case with Inglenook

Jim Barry Armagh Shiraz 2017 (6x75cl)

Halliday Wine Companion (96)

Largely standard vinification with individual blocks ex the Armagh Vineyard, 10 days on skins, some blocks given 3 weeks post-ferment maceration. Elegance isn't the aim of The Armagh, but the '17 vintage has made it easy. Richly flavoured with dark fruits, savoury tannins balance and lengthen the palate.

Peter Michael Les Pavots Proprietary Red 2018 (6x75cl)

Jane Anson (97)

Joining La Verité as one of two Sonomas released through the Place de Bordeaux, Peter Michael’s Les Pavots is his flagship wine, and I am so happy to see it included in the September Releases. A powerful vintage with plenty of Californian generosity, but with the delicacy and finesse that this mountain site delivers so expertly. Blueberry and bilberry fruits, overlaid with scorched earth, sage and rosemary herbs, all contributing to savoury Cabernet dominance with densely-packed muscular tannins, layers of tension and grip, and a mouthwatering freshness that makes it totally moreish. 3500 cases. Bottled unfined and unfiltered.

Quintessa 2018 (3x150cl)

Quintessa 2018 (3x150cl)

James Suckling (99)

This is beautifully polished with firm, dusty tannins to the blue fruit, as well as chocolate and cedar character. Some much earthier character, too, from mushrooms to bark. Forest flowers. Perfumed. It’s full-bodied with round tannins and a soft, creamy finish. Some iron and iodine to this. So attractive at the finish. From biodynamically grown grapes. Better after 2023.
