Direct neighbour of Clos de Bèze is Chambertin Grand Cru. The two wines together represent the “regal pair” (Jasper Morris MW) of the village, and although sharing some characteristics they have distinctive personalities. In contrast to the Clos de Bèze, Olivier’s Chambertin is often more open and giving early in its life, with a charming and majestic nose of spicy, glossy oak over fine, ripe fruit. Layers of rose petals and spicy black cherry sit beneath the whole, while the palate is fine and pure with a deft, mineral feel that masks the underlying power and density which lurk beneath the surface. The perfect blend of power and elegance, this is a true iron fist in a velvet glove.
