For yours truly this was the wine of the vintage for Penfodls, though I know it wasn’t necessarily meant to be. Nevertheless it is meant to be one of Australia’s most impressive Cabernet’s and it is most assuredly that. It takes a while to open up at first but when it does it presents itself with a monolithic bouquet that suggests blackberry and currants as well as some restrained spice. There are no overt oak flavours, with the aromatic and flavour profile evoking a bit of Margaux style.
