Brainchild of Pierre Graffeuille, managing director of Château Léoville Las Cases, and his friend from the Rhône, Matthieu Dumarcher, Odyssée was conceived to revive the 19th century practice of marrying the complementary features of the best wines of Bordeaux and the Rhône Valley,

It is a release with the tannic structure of the great wines of the Médoc but also the charm, finesse and friendliness of the wines of the Southern Rhône. With it being well known to have been a great vintage in both regions in 2018, it is no surprise that the new Odyssée 2018, only the fourth ever release, was "another great vintage for this cuvée" in the words of Jeb Dunnuck.

Made from a blend of 61% Cabernet Sauvignon, which is aged in old Léoville Las Cases barrels, 32% Grenache and 7% of often forgotten Counoise, this 2018 receives its highest score yet from the Wine Advocate, with Lisa Perrotti-Brown awarding it a very respectable 95 points.

Supported with 93 points from Jeb Dunnuck, it is made in an "incredibly elegant, even classy style" (JD) but is framed wonderfully by the "firm, rounded tannins and beautiful freshness" (WA). Dunnuck notes how he loves the "overall balance" of the "lively and fresh" palate, and it is easy to see why such notable winemakers are returning to this historic style of wine.
