    Chacra

    About Chacra

Bodega Chacra is Piero Incisa della Rochetta's personal project in Patagonia. As a member of the great family responsible for the mythical Sassicaia, his vineyard management and winemaking skill come with unquestionable pedigree. Hailed by James Suckling as one of the great “eye-openers” in Patagonia, della Rochetta is crafting “unique Chardonnays and Pinot Noirs” currently receiving thunderous critical acclaim.

Despite the unrivalled familial pedigree of Piero Incisa, the estate certainly doesn’t rely on its famous association alone. Recently joining forces with Jean-Marc Roulot, the most esteemed producer in Meursault, the collaboration has given Chacra's wines “a new soulful energy” (JS). Now amongst the most “transparent to the unique soils and microclimates” ever, these cuvées have come to rival many of the world's great wines.

The 2014 Cincuenta y Cinco feels very complete even at this early stage with good concentration, ripeness and balance. It combines the elegance of the 2013 with the exuberance of 2011. Since 2011 they went for a light toast of the barrels and also started using larger volume, 600-liter formats. The oak feels perfectly integrated in the wine. In the context this is more powerful, and has a little more concentration and ripeness, but it's still a very balanced and fresh. Different to 2013, but at the same high-quality level. 19,000 bottles produced.

Extremely perfumed and beautiful with ripe strawberries and citrus fruit, as well as aromatic flowers. Full-bodied with plenty of fruit and creamy, chewy tannins that are polished and very impressive. Long and linear. One of the best of this bottling. Drink after 2023, but already a gorgeous bottle.

Fresh and floral nose with tiles, vibrant red berries and pomegranate. Stony, mineral verve. Pure and expressive with good tension on the medium-bodied palate. Silky, very nimble and elegant. Acidic red berries in the finish that cleanse the palate. So much drinkability. Drink or hold. From biodynamically grown grapes.

This is incredibly fresh and vivid with orange peel, orange blossoms, cherries and hints of rose stem. Medium-bodied with a sleek and racy palate of creamy, fine tannins and a energetic length and purity. Crunchy. 100% whole cluster. From vineyards planted in 1955. Drink or hold.

Red cherries, strawberries, spiced plums, violets, cloves, dried herbs, undergrowth and a touch of smoke on the nose. It’s medium-bodied with firm, tight-grained tannins. Firm, mineral and tea-like tannin quality. Very focused and structured. Needs time. Try after 2025. From biodynamically grown grapes.

    Vinous (94)

The 2020 Pinot Noir Sin Azufre is a wine that in the past I’ve found a little hard to put my fingers on. This time, however, I confess that it touched a nerve. The pure aromas and flavors paint a vivid picture of the open country. Fermented in 600-liter barrels and aged in used oak, it’s an ethereal purple in hue. The 2020 has a nose of vibrant rose and violet notes followed by sour cherry. On the palate, the flavors are profound, and flow relaxed, smooth and expressive. Anchored in well-integrated freshness that wraps itself around the other qualities, this is a wine whose energy is drawn from nature itself.
