Clos L'Eglise

Chateau Clos L’Eglise is a tiny right bank property on the Pomerol plateau. It was purchased by the Garcin-Cathiard family in 1997. They have overseen huge investment and rapid transformation and their wines popularity has rocketed. The wine is rich, full bodied, lavish with plum, chocolate and floral notes. In an average year, only 1200 cases per year are produced.

Clos L'Eglise Pomerol 2011 (6x75cl)

Wine Advocate (93)

Another beautiful wine from the Garcin family, Clos l’Eglise, which had been a moribund estate for decades, leaped to the forefront in the late nineties where it has remained ever since. The dense ruby/purple-hued, medium-bodied 2011 possesses abundant notes of sweet black cherries, licorice and plums as well as impressive purity, texture and length. It should be at its peak in 2-3 years and last for 12-15. Usually, this is a blend of 80+% Merlot and the balance Cabernet Franc.

Clos L'Eglise Pomerol 2013 (6x75cl)

Wine Advocate (90)

The 2013 Clos l'Eglise has developed a very attractive bouquet with blackberry, briary and incense aromas that are well defined, very pretty. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp acidity, grainy on the entry with freshness and vigor. I appreciate the density here - not a common feature in 2013 - with a touch of salinity towards the finish. It will give a decade's worth of drinking pleasure.

Clos L'Eglise Pomerol 2017 (6x75cl)

Antonio Galloni - Vinous (92-95)

The 2017 Clos L'Eglise is a wine that brings together power, tension and energy. There is quite a bit of richness to the fruit, but also plenty of supporting structure. Beams of underlying tannin give the 2017 its drive and sense of direction, while keeping the flavors perked up. Bright red stone fruit, mint and white pepper lead into a sculpted finish lifted by striking floral notes. This is a decidedly tannic, tightly wound Pomerol that is going to require patience, but it is also hugely promising. The 2017 was done in 100% new 300L barrels.

A Pomerol with gorgeous crushed-berry, walnut, hazelnut and chocolate character, as well as a full body with ultra fine tannins that frame the wine beautifully. Extremely long finish. Three super wines in a row since 2018.
