Clos L'Eglise

Chateau Clos L’Eglise is a tiny right bank property on the Pomerol plateau. It was purchased by the Garcin-Cathiard family in 1997. They have overseen huge investment and rapid transformation and their wines popularity has rocketed. The wine is rich, full bodied, lavish with plum, chocolate and floral notes. In an average year, only 1200 cases per year are produced.

The 2009 is one of the sexiest wines in Pomerol in this vintage, offering up notes of melted caramel, sweet mocha, blackberry and black cherry fruit, with hints of loamy soil and unsmoked cigar tobacco as well as a touch of white chocolate and some subtle toasty oak. Round, opulent and unctuously textured, with a full-bodied mouthfeel, fabulous purity, and no hard edges, this sumptuous, fleshy, lavishly rich Pomerol can be drunk now and over the next 25 years.Clos L'Eglise Pomerol 2009 (6x75cl)

The 2017 Clos L'Eglise is a wine that brings together power, tension and energy. There is quite a bit of richness to the fruit, but also plenty of supporting structure. Beams of underlying tannin give the 2017 its drive and sense of direction, while keeping the flavors perked up. Bright red stone fruit, mint and white pepper lead into a sculpted finish lifted by striking floral notes. This is a decidedly tannic, tightly wound Pomerol that is going to require patience, but it is also hugely promising. The 2017 was done in 100% new 300L barrels.Clos L'Eglise Pomerol 2017 (6x75cl)

Based on 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc raised in 70% new French oak, the 2020 Château Clos L'Eglise is a beauty that’s going to match the magical 2009 and 2016. Dense purple-hued, with stunning notes of black cherries, cassis, graphite, licorice, and crushed stone, it hits the palate with full-bodied richness, classic Pomerol elegance and purity, and a great finish. This is a magical, concentrated, blockbuster of a wine that somehow stays and delicate and ethereal as they come. Don't miss it!Clos L'Eglise Pomerol 2020 (6x75cl)
