De Montille
Domaine de Montille in the Cote de Beaune was developed by Hubert de Montille in 1951. His family have aristocratic roots in the region’s land since the 17th century. Now run by his son, Etienne, they use traditional wine making techniques to produce pure elegant Burgundy that generally requires five years bottle ageing.

Vinous (91-93)(vinified entirely with whole clusters; 40% new oak): Good full red. Lovely high-pitched aromas of black cherry, blackberry, licorice and violet. Deep, sappy and vinous, with an enticing savory/sweet quality to the intense flavors of wild dark berries, violet and graphite. Finishes with firm-edged tannins, a very primary medicinal black cherry note, and lovely floral lift. This will need at least four or five years of bottle aging. Chef de cave Sieve noted that the domain owns parcels on either side of the tower in Clos Vougeot, with part of its vines located in a frost pocket that was hit hard in December of 2009. |

Wine Advocate (93-95)The 2016 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru is one-third whole cluster, less than in recent years according to winemaker Brian Sieve, with almost 50% new oak. It has a beautiful bouquet with scents of blackberry, raspberry coulis, crushed strawberries and seams of wet limestone underneath. The oak is seamlessly integrated here. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, very focused and taut with pure black cherry and crushed strawberry on the tensile finish. This is a very stylish, quite ambitious Clos de Vougeot. Excellent. |

Vinous (92-94)The 2017 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru contains one-third whole clusters and is made with 40% new oak. It has a refined and detailed bouquet with mineral-rich red fruit, raspberry and cranberry, wilted rose petal note wafting in with continued aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with grippy tannin. This is a more masculine and grippy Clos de Vougeot, lightly spiced with good density and grip on the finish. It will require five years or more in the cellar but should be worth the wait. |

Vinous (91-93)Containing 50% whole cluster, the 2018 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru underwent a late malolactic, not finishing until September. It has a refined, menthol-tinged bouquet that feels quite complex and focused, incense aromas developing with time. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, a little graphite developing toward the precise, sustained finish. It needs a little more flesh and grip on the finish, but otherwise this is a finely crafted Clos de Vougeot. |

Vinous (93-95)The 2019 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru includes 50% whole cluster, mainly to fill the vat, and is now plowed by horse due to the spacing of the vines. The delineated bouquet features red berry fruit infused with pressed rose petal, quite minerally in style. That comes through on a palate that is very focused, offering a touch of white pepper and clove and bay toward the complex finish. A classy, quite cerebral Clos de Vougeot. |

Vinous (92-94)The 2017 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru comes from Les Pougets and matures in just under 30% new oak. This has a vivacious and tensile bouquet with orange zest and Japanese yuzu aromas that burst from the glass. The palate is well balanced with a fine bead of acidity, quite taut for a Corton-Charlemagne but it is graced with impressive balance. The spicy finish is welcome. This is a finally crafted Grand Cru. |

Vinous (91-93)The 2021 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru comprises just one-third as much fruit as in 2022 and demanded twice as many treatments. It is just missing a bit of presence on the nose, with hints of white flowers and honeysuckle. The palate is well balanced with fine acidity, orange pith and hints of white peach and touches of white tea towards a very elegant finish. Hopefully, the aromatics will awaken by the time of bottling. |
