Comte Liger-Belair
Although the Domaine is relatively recent, Louis-Michel Liger-Belair, an engineer and oenologist, is renewing a two hundred year old family tradition. The vines are biodynamicaly cultivated and a horse ploughs part of the vineyard. Owning excellent vineyards, he produces wines that are light, aromatic and elegant.

Vinous (91)Dark red-ruby. Musky, very ripe, soil-driven scents of black raspberry, black cherry and menthol. Silky and fine-grained yet backward today owing to its medicinal reserve. This wine is hiding its sweetness in the early going but it displays lovely phenolic ripeness, not to mention good energy. I'd give it at least three or four years in the cellar. |

Wine Advocate (94)Tasted at the Comte Liger-Belair vertical at the Château de Vosne. The 2012 Nuits Saint-Georges 1er Cru Aux Cras comes sprinting out of the blocks with macerated black cherries, blueberry and raspberry fruit interlaced with sous-bois and woodland scents. I appreciate the joie-de-vivre expressed in this wine. The palate is medium-bodied with some new oak to be fully subsumed, but there is impressive substance here with a spicy tang on the long finish. This has no intention of growing up to be a subtle wine - and it is all the better for it. Tasted June 2015. |

Vinous - Stephen Tanzer (92-95)(10% vendange entier Deep ruby-red. Wild black raspberry, violet, crushed rock, mint and pepper, plus a whiff of chocolatey ripeness. Powerful, dense and sappy on entry, then superripe but bright in the middle, with a strong limestone quality that really tickles the taste buds. Finishes very long and vibrant, with terrific lift for the year. This cuvee has been especially impressive since the 2008 vintage. |

Wine Advocate (96)Tasted at the Comte Liger-Belair vertical at the Château de Vosne. The 2009 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Aux Reignots has a divine bouquet, beautifully defined with precise red cherries, blood orange, wild strawberry and striking mineral scents that elevate this Aux Reignots above previous vintages. The palate is very precise and poised, very animated and tense, the oak seamlessly integrated. This is a class act, the one that really gets hold of this premier cru and exploits it to the full. This is wonderful. Tasted June 2015. |

Wine Advocate (95)Tasted at the Comte Liger-Belair vertical at the Château de Vosne. The 2013 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Aux Reignots, which was bottled in April 2015, already has plenty of primary red berry fruit on the nose that feels very pure - mulberry and maraschino cherry. The palate continues really where the 2012 left off: quite wondrous delineation and tension from start to finish, perhaps edgier than the 2012, with a precise finish that has the perfect amount of sappy red berry fruit. One of the best Aux Reignots in recent years, one that has really elevated to another level since I tasted in from barrel. Tasted June 2015. |

Vinous (92-95)Bright red-ruby. Aromas of black raspberry and pungent minerality show a deep note of coffee reduction. Large-scaled, dry and classic, and quite backward and uncompromising today, with flavors of dark berries, smoke and crushed rock saturating the palate. Dusty tannins spread out horizontally on the vibrating, stony back end. Here's another 2016 that will require patience. Superb potential. |

Vinous (94)The 2017 Vosne-Romanée Aux Reignots 1er Cru has a lot of fruit on the nose (mulberry, red plums and crushed strawberry) and comes across plush and quite oaky, with a little reduction to address. The palate is medium-bodied with lithe tannins and quite rounded, though at the moment, this is dictated by the new oak, which renders the finish a bit generic. The oak may well be absorbed with age, allowing the fruit to shine. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2017 tasting. |

Vinous (95)The 2018 Vosne-Romanée Aux Reignots 1er Cru has another rather reduced bouquet, but there is plenty of red fruit here, touches of blood orange and hints of violet and after 20 minutes there is a palpable sense of exuberance. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, quite fleshy with fine grip and backbone. Fresh and delineated on the finish, this is a lovely Vosne-Romanée that should age well in bottle. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2018 red tasting. |

Vinous (94-96)The 2019 Vosne-Romanée Aux Reignots 1er Cru was showing just a small reduction on the nose, but that is shaken off with some aeration to reveal intense dark plum and citrus fruit plus touches of blood orange. The palate is velvety-smooth with finely pitched acidity and good tension. Quite sappy toward the finish, with the structure and persistence one expects from such a noble Premier Cru. Superb. |

Vinous (92+)Good deep red. Ripe, complex, slightly reduced aromas of plum, currant, cherry and smoke. Silky and vibrant, with lovely lift to the flavors of red fruits and dried rose. Finishes very long and bright, but distinctly firmer than the preceding village wines. This seems to be shutting down in bottle today. |

Wine Advocate (93+)The 2009 Vosne-Romanee Les Petits Monts comes across as rich, deep and very powerful. It boasts tons of energy and sheer texture. Sweet notes of tobacco, licorice, menthol and crushed flowers come together in the glass. Ultimately structure prevails in defining the wine’s personality. This is going to be a fun wine to taste in a few years, once the tannins have softened a bit. Anticipated maturity: 2019-2029. |

Vinous (93)Served by Louis-Michel Liger-Belair from double magnum, the 2006 Vosne-Romanée Les Suchots 1er Cru sports a gorgeous, black cherry, sous-bois and white pepper bouquet that still feels youthful (perhaps because of the large format and provenance.) The palate is structured with fine grip, overflowing with vim and vigour. The tannins mellow towards the finish but there remains tremendous weight and sumptuousness here. Excellent. Tasted at La Paulée in Beaune. |

Vinous (91-94)The Vosne-Romanée Les Suchots is quite round and supple in this vintage. Dark red and black stone fruits and a general bold overall profile are the main signatures, but at the same time there is quite a bit of underlying structure in support. The Suchots is always one of the flashier wines here, as it is again in 2013. |
