Domaine de Pégau
About Domaine de Pégau
One of the bastions of traditionalism in Châteauneuf du Pape, Domaine de Pégau has been long owned by the Feraud family. First planting vines by their olive trees in the 17th century, the name changed to Pegau in 1987. Today, the estate is run by the charming, talented Laurence, who was exceptionally well-schooled by her father, Paul. This nearly 50-acre estate fashions some of the longest-lived, most interesting wines of the appellation. Their cuvée is one of the most in-demand in the Rhone. These wines are made from old vines over 100 years old.

Jeb Dunnuck (98)Lastly, the 2020 Châteauneuf Du Pape Cuvée Da Capo is a bigger, richer wine, as well as a more youthful, focused, behemoth of a 2020. Powerful notes of ripe black cherries, darker currants, ground pepper, charcuterie, and flower incense are just some of the notions here, and it's full-bodied, with a concentrated, opulent mouthfeel, ripe tannins, and a great finish. It doesn't match the all-time greats of this estate, but it’s a more approachable, opulent, undeniable sexy, Provençal Da Cape that's impossible not to love. |

Wine Advocate (96-98)I was even more impressed by the 2020 Châteauneuf du Pape Cuvée Réservée than the 2019. Boasting crazily complex floral scents, garrigue, raspberries and cherries, this is one incredibly perfumed example of Pegau. Medium to full-bodied, silky, elegant and long, this is quintessential Pegau. |
