    Château Ferrière

    About Château Ferrière

Taking its name from the Ferrière family, a renowned player in maritime brokerage who acquired the estate at the end of the 17th century, Château Ferrière remained in the hands of the Ferrière family for more than 300 years, proudly earning its Third Growth status in the 1855 classification. It was subsequently acquired by the Merlaut family at the end of the 1980s and was eventually inherited by Claire Villars in 1992 upon the sudden passing of her parents. Today, Château Ferrière is managed by Claire and her husband, Gonzague Lurton, owner of Château Durfort-Vivens.

    Viniculture

Formerly the smallest Bordeaux Classified Growth, Château Ferrière has since increased its acreage to well over 20 hectares of vines planted to 51% Cabernet Sauvignon, 41% Merlot, 2% Cabernet Franc and 6% Petit Verdot. The average vine age is 45 years old and vineyards are planted to a density of 10,000 vines per hectare. Attaining both organic and biodynamic certification in 2015 and 2018 respectively, Château Ferrière produces harmonious and expressive wines that are certainly gaining a steady following.

From a vineyard that is now biodynamic, the wine has gained an extra dimension of fruit. At the same time, the tannins give the wine density that will stand it in good stead as it ages. This is for the long term.
