Lastly, the 2019 Condrieu Coteau De Vernon comes from a steep, southeast-facing hillside of granite soils and is brought up a mix of 15% new barrels and foudres. The foudres were introduced in 2012 and I think contribute to slightly more tension and vibrancy in the wines. Peach, crushed citrus, spicy wood, and crushed stone notes all define the nose, and it hits the palate with full-bodied richness, wonderful overall balance, integrated acidity, and one hell of a great finish. A reference point Condrieu if there ever was one, it will benefit from a year or two in bottle then have a gradual evolution over the following decade. These can unquestionably age for decades, in fact. Nevertheless, I prefer them from a year or two after the vintage and over the following 4-5 years.

Glass-staining violet color. Highly perfumed, mineral-accented black and blue fruit, incense and floral pastille scents pick up cured tobacco and exotic spice notes with air. Done in a concentrated yet lively style, offering palate-staining and alluringly sweet cherry, black raspberry, boysenberry, licorice, spicecake and candied violet flavors that are braced by an undercurrent of juicy acidity. Shows superb definition and mineral lift on a wonderfully persistent, floral-driven finish that's shaped by fine-grained, finely interwoven tannins.

Originating from France's famed Northern Rhône region, Georges Vernay Saint Joseph La Dame Brune 2019 displays an artistry of winemaking. Hailing from carefully selected plots bathed in the gentle light of the Saint-Joseph hillside, this elegant Syrah showcases the superior talent of the Vernay house, renowned since the mid-20th century for its consistent quality and iconic offerings. Expertly produced from hand-harvested grapes, its subtleties unfurl gently through traditional vinification methods. Preserving the integrity of the grapes, it's aged for 15 months in French oak barrels, teasing out the characterful expression of the varietal. This wine seduces with its intense dark fruit aromas interlaced with hints of spice, dark chocolate, and a whisper of smoke. On the palate, it offers a well-structured bouquet of luscious blackberries and ripe cherries, underscored by a gentle acidity and fine-grained tannins, leaving a lingering, sophisticated finish. Indulge in the unique elegance of Georges Vernay Saint Joseph La Dame Brune 2019.
