Guido Rivella
About Guido Rivella
After decades of working closely with one of the most famous names in global fine wine, Guido Rivella's own estate has emerged into the spotlight as one of Piemonte's finest producers. Having worked as Angelo Gaja's winemaker for almost 50 years, there are few better equipped to make world-class Nebbiolo, whether within the Barbaresco DOCG or as a more humble Langhe Nebbiolo - designations his former employer famously vacillated between.
When he set up his own Azienda in 2010 the pedigree of his experience was immediately apparent, especially in the quality of his single cru wines from Fausoni and Montestefano. In terms of winemaking, the estate's focus is all about maintaining the health of the vines and celebrating the terroir of his vineyards as methods in the cellar proceed with a delicate touch. As Enrico Rivella, Guido's son puts it so eloquently (!), 'ninety-nine per cent of the work is done in the vineyards. Our job in the cellar is not to f*%k it up'.
