Jean-Luc Colombo
About Jean-Luc Colombo
Jean-Luc Colombo’s estate is perched high among the dizzying schist slopes of their Cornas vineyards. This family-run estate has been praised by Wine Advocate for fashioning “a bevy of brilliant Cornas” that “continue to go from strength to strength”.
Named “a talented winemaker” by Robert Parker (Wine Advocate) and described as “the irrefutable modernist of the Rhone Valley”, Jean-Luc Colombo has worked tirelessly through his own Domaine and as a consultant oenologist across Southern France to champion the brilliant wines from the region.

Vinous (91+)Saturated medium ruby. Very ripe and aromatic nose of black- and redcurrant, licorice, woodsmoke, black olive, dark chocolate, tapenade and sweet oak. Broad, sweet and very rich, with superb mouthfilling volume. This spent 18 months in all new oak, but the wood is very well integrated. A lovely expression of Cornas. Finishes with big but very fine tannins and real velour. Silky, stylish Cornas with the balance and stuffing to reward extended cellaring. |

Vinous (92)Dark purple. Intense aromas of cherry compote, blueberry and licorice, with a medicinal note gaining strength with air. Round, lush and broad, with a restrained sweetness to the dark berry and fruitcake flavors. A rich, pliant wine that finishes with dusty tannins, resonating sweetness and impressive length. I like this wine's blend of richness and energy and suspect that it will age gracefully. |
