A wine with a reserved, yet complex nose of blackberries, raspberries and flowers. Full-bodied, with silky tannins and a soft, sweet fruit finish. A beautiful wine to taste. Hard not to drink this. Best I have had in years. The real thing. Better than the 1998. Best after 2010. 3,200 cases made. -JS

A very strong effort from this estate in the Jean-Pierre Moueix stable, this 2012 (14.5% natural alcohol) has a dense ruby/purple color, a big, sweet kiss of mocha, blackcurrants, and black cherries, and notes of truffle and earth. Full-bodied, ripe and one of the great successes from this estate over recent decades, the 2012 is a must-purchase for Pomerol enthusiasts. Silky tannins, superb concentration and a long, long finish suggest a good 20+ years of evolution at minimum. Bravo!

This is a traditional red with strawberry leaves, lemon rind and wet earth. Very aromatic. Medium to full body, firm and silky tannins and a fruity, chocolate and walnut character. Always refined yet powerful. Better in 2022.

    Vinous - Antonio Galloni (94+)

The 2016 Latour à Pomerol is a very beautiful wine. It is also quite a bit more reticent than most Pomerols in this vintage. Savory herb, leather, rose petal, blood orange, cedar, tobacco, menthol and dried cherry lift from the glass. En primeur, the 2016 was quite sensual, whereas today is decidedly powerful and structured. It will be interesting to see where things go in the coming years. One thing is for sure. I would not dream of opening a bottle anytime soon.

The 2017 Latour à Pomerol is a gorgeous wine that is at once deep and yet also super-expressive in its bouquet. Sweet tobacco, dried herbs, mint, pepper and spice give the 2017 striking aromatic presence to play off a core of ripe red cherry fruit. Medium in body yet wonderfully deep and fleshy, the 2017 has so much to offer. I like it as much from bottle as I did from barrel.

Wonderfully evocative nose, rich and vibrant, floral and perfumed alongside red fruits with a tiny touch of wood spice. Rich but dark and cooling, a brooding and bewitching style with liquorice-laced fruit and firm tannins. Serious, mouth filling, concentrated and rich but well delivered. There is a clarity to the fruit but this is all muscle and sinew at the moment. Lovely but tight and tense, so focussed with a hint of crushed stone and mint on the finish. A characterful style.

    Vinous - Neal Martin (93)

The 2020 Latour à Pomerol has retained a very similar bouquet to the one that I encountered from barrel with blackberry, loam and pencil box scents, perhaps one of the most Médocian noses that I have observed in this Pomerol even though paradoxically it is 100% Merlot! The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins. Fine build though it remains compact and linear, finally fanning out in its final third. There is a touch of chewiness just on the finish, but I feel this is developing the substance and structure for long-term ageing.
