Expertly crafted, the Mongeard-Mugneret Clos-de-Vougeot Grand Cru 2017 is a superb display of Burgundy viticulture. This extraordinary red wine hails from the historical, sun-drenched vineyards situated in Côte de Nuits, a region revered for its world-class Pinot Noirs. Remarkably crafted by Vincent Mongeard, whose ancestral champenois roots are evident in his meticulous vinification process. Renowned for respecting traditional Burgundian winemaking methods, each barrel is individually nurtured in the Mongeard cellars, preserving the singular characteristics of the terroir. The result is an elegant, full-bodied wine with tannic finesse, and a fragrant bouquet of cherries, wild berries, and spices. Offering a stunning, lingering finish, the Mongeard-Mugneret Clos-de-Vougeot Grand Cru 2017 is a testament to the timeless quality and prestige that emanate from the vineyards of Vougeot. Truly, a superior vintage that captures the essence of great Burgundy. |

Burghound (90-92)A more subtle application of oak frames the overtly floral and relatively high-toned aromas of red cherry and currant where added breadth is present in the form of sandalwood and spicy Asian-style tea. The seductively textured and acceptably concentrated if not especially dense medium-bodied flavors possess reasonable power and volume on the lingering and nicely complex finale. This is classy and certainly very pretty but I was somewhat disappointed with this given its usual excellent quality. |
