About Paitin
Paitin di Pasquero-Elia is one of the oldest family-owned wineries in Piemonte, first established in 1796 by Benedetto Elia who then purchased two hectares of Nebbiolo and Barbera vineyards in Bricco di Neive. Owned by the Pasquero-Elia family, Paitin’s wines consistently receive the highest praise from critics around the world. In 1948 Secondo Pasquero-Elia took over the winery and started replanting the vineyards. The oldest vineyard on the property, planted in 1953, now produces Paitin’s flagship wine ‘Barbaresco Riserva Vecchie Vigne’.

Vinous (90)The 2018 Barbaresco Serraboella is a very pretty wine. In this vintage, the Serraboella is quite ethereal in feel. Rose petal, orange peel, spice, mint and sweet dried cherry all lift in the glass. The Serraboella is a typically light to medium-bodied wine that reflects the modest depth of the year. |

Vinous (92)The 2018 Barbaresco Sorì Paitin offers good depth and plenty of grip, but there is no way of getting around the mid-weight structure of the year. Nervy tannins wrap around a core of red berry fruit, lavender, rose petal, spice and mint. I would give the Sorì Paitin a few years in bottle to soften, but imagine it will always remain a lighter wine by the estate's historical standard. It will be interesting to see where this goes. In 2018, there is no Vecchie Vigne; the best fruit was used here. |
