Vinous (91-93)(all destemmed): Medium red. Complex if reticent aromas of redcurrant, minerals, smoked meat and pepper. Sweet on entry, then quite firm in the middle, showing hints of candied fruit. The chewy, firm but ripe tannins really clamp down on the finish today. A distinctly intellectual calcaire style of wine. |

Vinous (93)Bright ruby-red. Black raspberry, licorice and dark chocolate on the slightly reduced nose, with a spicy quality emerging with air. Wonderfully plush, concentrated and velvety, conveying a spherical impression of volume that has something in common with the Saint-Georges. The black cherry flavor is complicated by hints of earth and flowers and enlivened by saline minerality. This edge-free wine maintains its freshness on the back end, finishing with fine, dusty, building tannins and lovely perfume. At this point in our tasting, Liger-Belair noted that in some vineyards in 2016, he lost 40% of his grapes to frost and another 20% to galloping mildew, noting that he was late on one vineyard treatment and spent the following weeks in reaction mode. |

Vinous (93-95)The 2018 Clos Vougeot Grand Cru contains 40% whole cluster from the oldest parts of the vineyard, the younger vines de-stemmed. Apparently it struggled to complete its alcoholic fermentation and had to be transferred back into barrel, where it finally finished in June 2019. It has an intriguing bouquet with brown spices and black pepper infusing the vibrant red fruit that leaps from the nose. The palate is well balanced with fine, saturated tannins. The whole bunch is very well assimilated and lends complexity and precision on the finish. Superb. |

Vinous - Stephen Tanzer (93-96)Good deep red. Pungent aromas of dark berries, crushed rock and exotic spices. Dense, tactile and sappy, with the energy to leaven its almost liqueur-like texture. As chewy as a solid, yet the extremely long finish displays outstanding peppery lift and perfume. Liger-Belair suggests drinking this one in 2030! |

Vinous (95-97)A drop-dead gorgeous beauty, the 2012 Richebourg takes hold of all the senses with a kaleidoscope of aromas and flavors that is truly breathtaking. This is a gracious Richebourg that adds considerable finesse to all of the structure one expects to find. Violets, cloves, new leather and black fruit are all supported by veins of cool, incisive minerality. The flavors are intense and resonant, with tons of mineral drive and pure energy. What a magnificent wine this is. Liger-Belair vinified the Richebourg with fully destemmed fruit. |
