Tollot-Beaut
About Domaine Tollot-Beaut
Domaine Tollot-Beaut is arguably the best-known estate in Chorey-lès-Beaune; indeed the cellars sit on Rue Alexandre Tollot in the village and for many “Tollot-Beaut” and “Chorey” are practically synonymous. It is a sign of their broad appeal, excellent value and food-friendly character that these wines are seen with incredible frequency on the wine lists of Beaune’s many restaurants and brasseries.
Domaine Tollot-Beaut has always been a forward-thinking domaine, and they have been estate-bottling their wines for nearly a century now. Under the guidance of the charming Nathalie Tollot, and with assistance from cousins Olivier and Jean-Paul, quality is constantly increasing year on year, with an optical sorting machine having been introduced and the oak regime refined to give a more harmonious integration in the wines.

Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (87-88)Medium to light crimson. A beautiful pure pinot fruit. Really classy on the palate, with the domaine’s signature oak at the back. Perfect acid balance. Looking forward to seeing this in bottle. Drink from 2024-2026. Tasted: October 2022 |

Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (88-89)Deep purple with an exotic exuberant nose, not too cooked. Lovely fresh red fruit despite the more exotic style, floral peony notes, ripe raspberries, relatively dancing, and with good length. Drink from 2025-2038. Tasted: October 2023. |

Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (88-90)Two tanks instead of three this year, my sample representing the blend of both. A bright mid crimson. Joyous fresh red fruit, some strawberry, vivacious energy with the right acidity, the usual clean vanilla oak behind and good persistence. Drink from 2024-2027. Tasted: October 2022 |

Vinous (87-89)The 2019 Chorey-lès-Beaune Pièce du Chapitre offers brambly black fruit on the nose, tinged with iodine and violet. The palate is medium-bodied with crunchy red berry fruit, showing more cohesion than the regular Village cru, and a savory finish. |

Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (89-90)Not quite as deep a purple and the nose is a little more refined, less exuberant. There is no shortage of quality fruit on the palate, dark raspberry, a few more tannins, but they are ripe enough. The fruit covers the final structure very nicely. Drink from 2026-2032. Tasted: October 2023. |

Burghound (92)An attractively layered nose offers up notes of violet, plum, smoked meat hints and plenty of warm earth character to the wild dark berry fruit aromas. There is excellent volume to the ripe, intense and powerful large-scaled flavors that exhibit fine intensity on the powerful, balanced and vibrant finish that delivers its usual fine length. This isn't quite a robust as it usually is though it's a big wine all the same and will require an extended cellar siesta. Drink: 2023+ |

Wine Advocate (92)Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2014 tasting, Tollot-Beaut's 2014 Corton Grand Cru has a clean, pure bouquet with red cherries and cranberry scents that seem to billow with time. The palate is medium-bodied with a sensual opening, plenty of supple red cherry and strawberry fruit with a touch of spice toward the finish. This is a delicious red Corton that should drink well for 12 to 15 years. Tasted September 2017. |

Vinous (93-95)The 2020 Corton Grand Cru, which comes from Les Combes as usual (though not on the label), has a lovely nose with brambly red fruit, black truffle and subtle pencil box aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with saturated tannins, very fine tension and an almost sorbet-fresh, quite mouth-coating finish. It will require time in bottle...but this Corton will be worth the wait. |

Vinous (90-92)The 2018 Corton-Bressandes Grand Cru comes from two parcels amounting to a single hectare of vines. This is more mineral-driven than the straight Le Corton, offering beautifully defined red berry fruit laced with crushed limestone and light marine aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with powerful red berry fruit. Quite heady for a Corton-Bressandes, leading to an intense finish. Perhaps this year I err toward the restraint shown by the Le Corton. |

Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (89-93)Rich purple, perhaps not quite so dense. Ripe strawberry with some floral rose notes in a concentrated register, then an explosion of blackcurrant, blackberry and some fresher red berry notes as well on the palate, soft and liquid, though the alcohol is showing, at 15%. Tasted: October 2021 |
