Tollot-Beaut
About Domaine Tollot-Beaut
Domaine Tollot-Beaut is arguably the best-known estate in Chorey-lès-Beaune; indeed the cellars sit on Rue Alexandre Tollot in the village and for many “Tollot-Beaut” and “Chorey” are practically synonymous. It is a sign of their broad appeal, excellent value and food-friendly character that these wines are seen with incredible frequency on the wine lists of Beaune’s many restaurants and brasseries.
Domaine Tollot-Beaut has always been a forward-thinking domaine, and they have been estate-bottling their wines for nearly a century now. Under the guidance of the charming Nathalie Tollot, and with assistance from cousins Olivier and Jean-Paul, quality is constantly increasing year on year, with an optical sorting machine having been introduced and the oak regime refined to give a more harmonious integration in the wines.

Vinous (89-91)The 2020 Aloxe-Corton Les Fournières 1er Cru is ripe and juicy on the nose: strawberry and raspberry, the oak here more pronounced compared to the Les Vercots. The palate is medium-bodied with ripe, saturated tannins and again, here, I find the new oak more pronounced and perhaps just detracting a little from its delineation and mineralité on the finish. Yet once that is fully subsumed, this could turn into quite a substantial Aloxe-Corton. |

Vinous (93-95)The 2020 Corton Grand Cru, which comes from Les Combes as usual (though not on the label), has a lovely nose with brambly red fruit, black truffle and subtle pencil box aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with saturated tannins, very fine tension and an almost sorbet-fresh, quite mouth-coating finish. It will require time in bottle...but this Corton will be worth the wait. |

Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (89-93)Rich purple, perhaps not quite so dense. Ripe strawberry with some floral rose notes in a concentrated register, then an explosion of blackcurrant, blackberry and some fresher red berry notes as well on the palate, soft and liquid, though the alcohol is showing, at 15%. Tasted: October 2021 |

Vinous (90-92)The 2020 Savigny-lès-Beaune Les Champs Chevreys 1er Cru does not quite possess the cohesion of the Les Lavières on the nose at the moment, but there is a nice touch of reduction here that I think is masking more mineralité. The palate is medium-bodied with firm tannins. Good depth, there is more sinew compared to the Les Lavières and I suspect it will have more longevity. |

Vinous (88-90)The 2020 Savigny-lès-Beaune Les Lavières 1er Cru is well-defined on the nose with slightly earthy red berry fruit, touches of crushed stone, slightly peppery (though this is de-stemmed like all Tollot-Beaut’s cuvées.) The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red fruit. Good density here, maybe not the most tensile of the cuvées from the Domaine this vintage, but there is decent weight on the back end. Give it a couple of years in bottle. |
