    Yarra Yering

Yarra Yering has been established in the Yarra Valley since 1969 and since then has distinguished itself from the rest of Australian winemaking. With an iconic range of wines, including the Dry Reds Nos. 1 & 2 alongside an ever increasing and changing cast of supporting characters, this is one of the most dynamic ranges in Australia today. The quality of Yarra Yering has continued unabated through to the present day as evidenced by James Halliday’s selection of Sarah Crowe as 'Australian Winemaker of the Year 2017’.

This winery is one of the legends of Australian winemaking and a true original in terms of style and aesthetic. Their low-fi production values with lightweight glass bottle and non-existant punt (dimple on the bottle of the bottle) buck the trend of obnoxiously weighty bottles. Their wine is similarly light in comparison, with their reds known to reach staggering lows of 12.5%, below even modern Burgundian averages. An elegant overall style and a refusal to dignify design conventions have endeared this winery to its fans around the world.

Yarra Yering Carrodus Cabernet Merlot 2012 (6x75cl)
    Inc. VAT: £856.07
    2012

Yarra Yering Carrodus Cabernet Merlot 2012 (6x75cl)

    Wine Advocate (94+)

Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2012 Carrodus Cabernet Merlot is full-on from the get-go with notes of ripe blackcurrants, blueberries and crushed blackberries accented by pencil shavings, Provence herbs and cloves plus a hint of cinnamon. Medium-bodied, the weight may be elegant but the intensity of flavors is full-throttle with firm, grainy tannins to back up the fruit and great freshness, leading to a very long finish.

    2015

Yarra Yering Pinot Noir 2015 (6x75cl)

    Halliday Wine Companion (97)

Four clones were planted '69, '81 and '84, making these vines (on average) some of the oldest in Australia. This is in classic Yarra Yering style: rich, powerful and complex, but doesn't go over the top, its varietal expression plain for all to see, its length exceptional, its longevity likewise.

Yarra Yering Underhill Shiraz 2014 (12x75cl)
    Inc. VAT: £812.14
    2014

Yarra Yering Underhill Shiraz 2014 (12x75cl)

    Halliday Wine Companion (98)

From 8ha of shiraz planted in '73 on a westerly slope. Vivid crimson purple; counter-intuitively slightly deeper than '14 Carrodus. Spectacular intensity and power, yet the detail is so precise that you can smell and taste each tile in the mosaic of the wine: black cherry, licorice, spice, pepper, tannins, blackberry. Paradoxically, because it is due to this detail that the wine cries out for more time.
