Less expressive, firmer and more mineral. More salty and oceanic than the Brunate with a chalky texture. Athletic and nervy but good strength and line. Winter berries and black cherry stones with a herbal, leafy quality. This is Voerzio’s highest Barolo vineyard, situated in the commune of La Morra, at between 380 to 430 metres above sea level. Aged for two years in a mix of big and small barrels, light toast, French oak (15, 20, 30 and 35 HL sizes for the big barrels).

Producer

Roberto Voerzio

In a region of stars, Roberto Voerzio in la Morra shines brightest, making some of the most sought after Barolos in production. His complete obsession with his vines means the purity of the wines is stunning, but yields are very low and the wines command high prices. Not a ‘traditionalist’ as such, the tannins here are supple and ripe and some new wood is used, but everything is very hands on without much modern intervention. If ever an opportunity arises to experience these wines, take it – they are up there with some of the world’s most profound wines.
