The 2019 release bears a strong resemblance to the lauded 2016 vintage, scoring 95+ points and 97 points from Wine Advocate’s Luis Gutiérrez and James Suckling, respectively. 2019 was a warm and dry year in Puente Alto, and this led to a higher than usual proportion of Carménère being used in the blend. Made from 68% Cabernet Sauvignon, 23% Carménère, 5% Cabernet Franc and a dash of Petit Verdot and Merlot, the wine displays good “vertical and integrated” (WA) profile, and it has a “tight, fine-tannined palate” (JS).

Producer

Concho y Toro is Latin America's largest wine producer, and the 'benchmark' for Chilean wine. Encompassed in their repertoire are the world's highest scoring Carmenere's - Carmin de Peumo and Terrunyo as well as one of the world's most 'distinctive' Cabernet Sauvignon's - Don Melchor. Chile's first and original Icon wine, James Suckling named Don Melchor the "Classic Cabernet of Chile".
