In 2016, the wine was supported by a dash of the increasingly popular Petit Verdot in the blend. The finished product, Vigorello 2016, offers "depth, intensity and a profound level of dark fruit" (WA). Awarded 94+ points by the Wine Advocate, the "lovely" Vigorello 2016 is the highest ever scoring wine from San Felice.

This judgement is corroborated by scores of 94-95 points from James Suckling and 94 points from Antonio Galloni (Vinous), with the former stating that this is "a fresh and clean wine with a very intense structure and density".

Perfectly approachable and rewarding right now, we advise giving it a couple of years in the cellar to allow the tannins to soften and integrate even further. For those buyers who like to age their wines longer and develop deeper complexity, Galloni gives this a lengthy drinking window up to 2036.

Producer

Based in the Southern tip of Tuscany's Chianti Classico region, San Felice has always been a pioneering winery. Back in 1968, they created the fore-runner to the Super Tuscan movement with their Vigorello, the first wine from the Chianti Classico region produced using solely black grapes.
