Christian Eedes (95)50% Chenin Blanc, 42% Verdelho and 8% Grenache Blanc. Roussanne has been dropped from the mix this year while some of the Chenin Blanc is from the Piekenierskloof Skuinskap vineyard – Lourens opting not to release this as a standalone wine as he felt he left picking too late. Pretty and enticing aromatics of pear, peach, citrus plus hints of potpourri and dried herbs and a little flinty reduction while the palate has a dense core of fruit and comes across as entirely seamless. This is establishing itself as one of the best Cape White Blends around. |

Tim Atkin MW (95)Now into its fourth vintage, Franco Lourens' brilliant Piekenierskloof Grenache continues to turn heads. A quarter of the wine was fermented with stems, adding some spice to a nose of rooibos tea and rose petal. Racy and crunchy, with the zip of its 650-metre terroir, it has understated concentration, strawberry and red cherry flavours and detailed, fine-grained tannins. |

Tim Atkin MW (94)The Vrede Chardonnay uses grapes from the same site in the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley as the Pinot Noir of the same name. Made with the popular CY95 clone, this shows none of the heat of the 2022 vintage, reflecting the subtlety of Hannes Storm's winemaking. Sappy, mineral and refreshing, it combines scented 25% new oak with citrus, oatmeal and pear flavours and a lingering finish. |

Tim Atkin MW (96)Now into its tenth vintage - where did the last decade go? - this is a brilliant Pinot Noir that builds complexity in the glass. Opulent, spicy and perfumed, with rose petal and violet aromas, fine acidity, considerable underlying grip, savoury tannins and ageing potential and subtle 25% new oak. |
