Vinous (91-93)

(the crop level here was down 50% due to the May hail, and these vines were picked nearly a week later than the rest of the Arnoux holdings) Good red-ruby. Wild black fruits, licorice, game and nutty oak on the nose. Creamy but still tight, with an impression of peppery acidity cutting through the purple fruit and violet flavors. Thick but not heavy owing to its firm acids. Serious, juicy wine, quite different in style from the rest of the 2009s here owing to the effect of the spring hail on the vines' ripening curve.

Vinous (91-94)

(vinified entirely with whole clusters and aged in 80% new oak): Healthy deep red. Sexy aromas of red berries, spices, pepper and crushed stone. Distinctly extract-rich, rocky wine with terrific sappy energy and tensile strength. Comes across as a bit cooler in character than the Echézeaux and finishes with serious building tannins. The family's holding is in the highest, windiest part of this grand cru, including one parcel that's surrounded on three sides by woods and thus receives less afternoon sun.

Wine Advocate (94+)

The 2015 Latricières-Chambertin Grand Cru is one of the more aromatically reticent wines in the range, opening in the glass with notes of coniferous forest floor, raspberry and currant leaf. On the palate, the wine is supple, silky and expansive, with a deep and sapid core of fruit, bright acids, and fine-grained, chalky tannins which assert themselves on the finish. This will need time, but the raw materials are promising.

Wine Advocate (95+)

The 2016 Latricières-Chambertin Grand Cru reveals exceptional potential and ranks as one of the most exciting wines Charles Lachaux has produced to date, wafting from the glass with aromas of wild berries, dark chocolate, grilled game bird, peony and mossy soil. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, deep and multidimensional, with a dense, layered core, tangy balancing acids and a long, vibrant finish. It's currently quite reserved and will demand some patience.

Vinous (96)

The 2019 Latricières-Chambertin Grand Cru has a beautifully-defined bouquet, crushed stone infusing the vivid red fruit, hints of pressed rose petals and a touch of blood orange. The palate is medium-bodied with fine delineation, a fine bead of acidity, quite structured and harmonious, a delicate touch of spice with a strict, linear, quintessentially Latricières finish. Sophisticated, but serious.

Vinous (92+)

Saturated, bright red-ruby. Musky aromas of red berries, minerals, underbrush, smoke and oak. The mid-palate shows a vibrant sweetness and a pronounced minerality but today is dominated by a strong and slightly raw oakiness. I find this tough going today, but the wine's powerful extract, strong acidity and firm tannic spine suggest it will reward 10 or 12 years of cellaring. (Unfortunately, my sample of the Mazis-Chambertin was corked.)

Vinous (93-95)

Bright medium red. Less black on the nose than most of Fourrier's other 2016s, offering complex aromas of raspberry, wild strawberry, crushed rock and smoky minerals. Plush and fine-grained but light on its feet, boasting terrific juicy lift; like a mouthful of crushed rocks and flowers. Youthfully tight but not hard, this wine finishes with terrific sappy energy, savory minerality and building sweetness. I would have guessed that this beauty was harvested earlier than many of Fourrier's domain wines but in fact it was picked on September 30.

Vinous (91-95)

Superb ruby-red. Extraordinarily fine, pure, high-pitched aromas of black fruits, violets, minerals and fresh blood. Extraordinarily sweet and pure in the mouth, with a juicy, sharply defined flavor of crystallized dark berries. Powerful acidity gives the wine a wonderful lightness on the palate. Very firm finish begins almost tough and then opens slowly and builds. Today I get a stronger impression of soil character here than in the Clos de la Roche.

Vinous (92-94)

Ruby-red. Precise, fine, stony aromas of raspberry, rose petal and smoke; totally different from the last sample. Less volume and sheer ripeness, but higher-pitched, stronger in acidity and more sharply defined. Still, this is a big boy. Shows terrific fruit and great finesse through to the very fine, long finish.

Good deep red. Wild, slightly reduced aromas of musky raspberry, game and earth. Then juicy and gripping on the palate but still quite tight and not yet revealing its inherent complexity. This fascinating, primary, mineral- and soil-driven wine needs a good decade of cellaring.

Wine Advocate (91)

The 2011 Latricieees-Chambertin Grand Cru showed a little reduction on the nose, although rigorous swirling remedied that. It offers a broody bouquet with dark fruit: blackberry and Dorset plum, but it will offer more in the future. The palate is medium-bodied with an attractive chewy entry, a nice grip and a long succulent finish. This is a fine 2011 but for me, not quite at the ethereal level of Lalou Bize-Leroy’s other Grand Crus.

Vinous (93-95)

The 2020 Latricières-Chambertin Grand Cru, which was picked around 7 September, has a vibrant nose with a mixture of red and black fruit, crushed stone (basalt?) and faint liquorice scents in the background. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, cohesive and with great depth. There is just a touch of oak to be subsumed on the finish, so give this 4-6 years in bottle.
