Rafael Palacios Valdeorras As Sortes 2019 (6x150cl)

Decanter (98)

Sampled from a vat, this is one of the best As Sortes I have ever tasted, comparable to the iconic 2011. It's a prodigy of subtleness and elegance. Everything is firmly delicate in this wine. Restrained aromas open up parsimoniously, with a steely structure like a great Burgundy, but with flinty acidity almost like Grosses Gewächs from Rheingau. Despite the fact that the sample was not yet bottled, the wine had no oak influence, just the indication that it had been aged, as top Godello must. Rafael Palacios is refining his work year after year, reaching the magic of the greatest wines. A top wine, and one to keep.

Raul Perez Prieto Picudo 2007 (6x75cl)

Wine Advocate (96)

Perhaps the most unique (and difficult to describe) of the Raul Perez wines is the 2007 Prieto Picudo sourced from 100-year-old vines and aged for 17 months in French oak. Opaque purple-colored, it has a mind-boggling, sexy bouquet of mineral, truffle, incense, kinky wild blackberry, and black raspberry, Firm on the palate, it is already complex, with silky-textured black fruits, succulent flavors, and a 60-second finish. There is no track record of how it might evolve but its impeccable balance suggests that 6-8 years (or longer) is well within reason.

Telmo Rodriguez As Caborcas 2018 (6x75cl)

Wine Advocate (96+)

I was really looking forward to the 2018 As Caborcas, a multi-grape red produced with Mencía, Merenzao, Sousón, Garnacha, Godello, Brencellao and other grapes from ancient vines on granite terraces. It fermented in small oak and stainless steel vats and had a soft élevage in 1,500- and 2,000-liter foudres to preserve its Atlantic profile. This is a little more reticent than Falcoeira but more open than O Diviso, but the three showed superbly in 2018. It takes some time in the glass to unfurl the As Caborcas perfume—decayed blue flowers, wild and Atlantic, berries and herbs, subtle and elegant. Simply superb. 2,460 bottles were filled in June 2020.

Telmo Rodriguez Falcoeira 'A Capilla' 2018 (6x75cl)

Wine Advocate (95)

The 2018 Falcoeira A Capilla comes from a wet and somewhat challenging year given the warm summer after a rainy spring that made them work hard in the vineyards. This comes from a field blend of Mencía, Brancellao, Sousón, Garnacha Tintorera and other grapes that they replanted on steep terraces on granite soils at 400 to 600 meters in altitude. It fermented in 3,000-kilo oak vats with indigenous yeasts and matured in a 2,000-liter oak foudre. It has moderate alcohol despite being from a warm exposure. This is a wine that has been improving every year, and in the cooler 2018 vintage, it comes through as very aromatic, floral, elegant and expressive (I said Burgundian, and Pablo didn't like it very much). It's a medium-bodied red, beautifully textured, with very fine tannins, the granite grainy feeling and a dry and long finish with pungent flavors. I love it! 1,200 bottles were filled in June 2020.
