Fondreche Cotes-du-Ventoux Persia 2016 (12x75cl)

Jeb Dunnuck (93-95)

The Syrah heavy cuvee from Domaine de Fondreche is the 2016 Ventoux Persia and this inky colored barrel sample includes 10% Mourvèdre and is brought up all in oak. It offers incredible purity and elegance as well as terrific notes of crème de cassis, hints of toasty oak, violets and graphite. With medium to full-bodied richness, building, fine tannin, no hard edges and a weightless, seamless style, it’s going to rival the 2007 and 2010 as the top release for the cuvee.

Fondreche Ventoux Divergente 2016 (1x150cl)

Jeb Dunnuck (97)

Reminding me of one of the Sélections Parcellaires Hermitage from Michel Chapoutier, the 2016 Ventoux Divergente is 90% Syrah and 10% Mourvèdre that was mostly destemmed and brought up in foudre. Crème de cassis, black raspberries, peppered meats, graphite, and liquid rock notes all flow to a fat, unctuous, sexy Syrah that has beautiful acidity, fine tannin, and a huge finish. It's a true “Wow” wine that needs to be tasted to be believed. Put this in a blind lineup of top Hermitage and shock all your friends.

Pesquie Ventoux Quintessence 2019 (6x75cl)

Jeb Dunnuck (92-94)

Moving to the smaller production cuvées, the Syrah-dominated 2019 Ventoux Quintessence reveals a deeper ruby/plum color followed by a beautiful bouquet of smoked red and black fruits, gamey herbs, spring flowers, and an almost forest floor-like character. With considerable elegance on the palate, medium to full-bodied richness, and silky yet building tannins, this is straight-up classy stuff. It will benefit from a year or three of bottle age and drink nicely for a solid decade.
