Vinous (86-88)The 2019 Monthélie Clos Les Champs Fulliot 1er Cru comes from 0.9 hectares of vine. It was the second parcel to be picked because of its warm microclimate, yet I find more precision on the Les Duresses. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, a mixture of red and black fruit and touches of dark chocolate and tar. There is more elegance and terroir expression on the Les Duresses this year. |

Vinous - Neal Martin (91)The 2010 Acte 2 is a step up from the debut on the nose, demonstrating more cohesion and harmony, raspberry and light blueberry scents and the oak better integrated than the Acte 1. There is a subtle mintiness that surfaces with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin and well judged acidity. Notes of mulberry and peppermint, plenty of dark berry fruit with a fresh and cohesive finish, this completes a fine Acte that should give another decade of drinking pleasure. Excellent. Tasted at the Acte vertical in London. |

Inspired by the old world allure of Burgundy, Jean-Claude Ramonet Monthelie 1er Cru 2020 captivates the senses. From the renowned producer Ramonet, this remarkable wine reflects the essence of the premier cru vineyards in Monthelie. Regarded for their delicate balance, it is crafted with attention to traditional methods and employing meticulous cultivation standards. The result is a striking blend of elegance and complexity. Year 2020 was particularly favourable, endowing the wine with exquisite intensity of flavour. This French beauty enchants the palate with sophisticated minerality and smooth tannins. On the nose, it bears the signature fragrance of cherries, along with compelling earthy undertones. Jeb Dunnuck (95)The 2018 Les Perrières de Lafleur comes from a massal selection of vines from Château Lafleur planted on the clay and limestone soils in Fronsac. Based on 51% Cabernet Franc and 49% Merlot aged 15 months in one-third new French oak, it has a stately, regal style offering medium to full-bodied richness, notes of blackcurrant, black cherries, graphite, chalky minerality, white truffle, and violets, a broad, expansive mouthfeel, and building tannins. It shares a similar elegance and seamlessness with its Pomerol counterpoint, yet the high percentage of Cabernet Franc and different terroir give it a style all its own. It's a beautiful wine that needs 2-4 years of bottle age and will evolve for 15+ years. As I wrote after tasting it from barrel, if you find a bottle, you should buy it! |
