I had tasted this wine from barrel last year, and the wine was already shaping up beautifully back then. Staying the course, the 2015 Barolo Bricco Boschis shows extreme elegance and finesse. These are the characteristics of what is surely one of the most beautiful vineyard sites in Barolo. The Bricco Boschis cru affords a panoramic view onto much of the Langhe, with snowcapped Alps in the background. Barolo from Castiglione Falletto tends to show characteristics that are very fine, precise and linear. That's fundamentally what you get here despite the more exuberant and fleshy 2015 vintage. This wine is truly beautiful. Some 27,700 bottles were made.

Aromas of underbrush, camphor, new leather and woodland berries mingle with a whiff of pressed rose petal on this compelling red. Still youthfully austere but already incredibly delicious, it delivers raspberry compote, truffle, tobacco and licorice framed in tightly knit, noble tannins. Fresh acidity keeps it balanced. Another fantastic showing from this wonderful estate.

Incredible, reserved ripeness and depth already evident on the nose after one whiff, offering plum, cedar, rose hip, sandalwood, and licorice. Full-bodied with superb depth of fruit and an abundance of polished tannins that give the wine poise and grace, even though it’s long and powerful. The quality of the tannins are exceptional. Sheer and refined. This comes from the center of Cannubi. Aged five years in Stockinger cask. Better after 2026.

The 2015 Ducru-Beaucaillou is phenomenally great. Inky, powerful and explosive, the 2015 pulses with energy in all of its dimensions. Creme de cassis, blackberry jam, graphite, smoke, leather and incense, along with the wine's muscular tannins, convey an impression of brooding intensity. The 2015 has been nothing short of sensational on the two occasions I have tasted it so far. Readers should be prepared to be patient. Don't miss it!

There is slightly more structure to the 2015 Barolo Ginestra Casa Maté than to the Gavarini Chiniera of the same vintage, and the only differences here are the soils and that this fruit is harvested about ten days later. It's a pretty fascinating demonstration of the power of the single vineyard. The Gavarini Chiniera parcel offers slightly sandier soils, whereas this site is composed of more clay. In rainy years, the Gavarini Chiniera vineyard drains more effectively, whereas the Ginestra's soil retains more moisture in the hot and dry vintages. As a result, in vintages such as this one, Ginestra shows a more compact nature and, in general, provides more impact and more structure. This is a very robust expression, extremely linear and tight. The Ginestra Casa Maté narrowly wins this round. It's another beautiful Barolo.

The last time we saw this iconic wine was in 2013 (a vintage that earned a perfect score). Following up on that success, the Elio Grasso 2015 Barolo Riserva Rüncot is a generous, open-knit Nebbiolo that has much of the warmth and sunshine locked deep within its core. The bouquet reveals broad brush aromas of black fruit, blackberry preserves, smoky tar and baked plum. With 7,000 bottles made, this Riserva is smooth and velvety in texture. There's no reason why it can't hold until the mid-century mark.

The 2015 Barolo Gramolere (with fruit from Monforte d'Alba) opens to a medium-dark ruby color. When you put the wine to your lips, you immediately feel the power, structure and inner fiber of Nebbiolo as interpreted in this two-hectare parcel with its 30-year-old vines. In fact, this wine is defined by that immediate firmness. The aromas, however, are softer and more yielding with forest fruit, wild berry, crushed slate and blue flower. I would suggest putting this wine aside for five more years at least.

The 2015 Barolo Francia is a soaring, regal wine endowed with tremendous intensity in all of its dimensions. The most reticent and inward of the 2015s, the Francia possesses superb textural density and persistence all the way through to the explosive finish. An immense, towering Barolo, the Francia is positively stellar. It is also going to require a number of years to be at its best. I absolutely loved the 2015 Léoville-Barton and this has everything you could want from a Left Bank Bordeaux. Cassis, smoked earth, graphite, tobacco leaf, and thrilling amounts of minerality all emerge from this inky colored, full-bodied, power-packed, brut of a Saint-Julien that holds everything together and stays pure, balanced and elegant on the palate. It has a lot of tannins, yet more than enough fruit. One of the finest offerings of the prestigious Piedmont region, the Luca Bosio Barolo 2015 showcases the winemaking excellence that characterises the Bosio family's work. From vineyards boasting calcareous clay soil, this 100% Nebbiolo varietal presents a resounding testament to Italian viticultural prowess. Luca Bosio painstakingly ages this wine in French oak barrels for at least three years, honouring traditions initiated by Bosio patriarch, Egidio. The result is a wine with striking garnet-red hues, an expressive nose of roses and ripe cherries, and a full-bodied palate that marries polite tannins with enamouring dark fruit flavours. The subtle influence of oak and well-poised acidity render the Luca Bosio Barolo 2015 truly harmonious, its enduring finish hinting at promising cellar evolution. Admirers of finely crafted Italian wines will unquestionably appreciate this exquisite delineation of the Nebbiolo grape's potential.

The 2015 Barolo Bussia Dardi Le Rose is one of the most intriguing wines of the vintage. Sweet tobacco, cedar, dried cherry, mint and licorice give the wine an attractive openness at first, but that turns out to be deceptive, as the 2015 is much tighter on the palate. More than anything else, I am impressed by the wine's phenomenal length. I imagine the 2015 will always retain a slightly mature character in its aromas and flavors, but it also has the structure to develop beautifully in bottle for many years to come. This is an especially powerful edition of the Dardi Le Rose. I loved it.

Wine Advocate (94)

The 2015 Barolo Castiglione is a soft and elegant expression with marked freshness and delineated fruit. Indeed, Luca Currado maintains that 2015 was not a hot vintage per se, and any jammy notes that might appear in the vintage may have to do with an overzealous approach to leaf pulling during the summer season. Old habits die hard, he says, and leaving the leaves intact contributes to the color stabilization of the wine and the successful management of its acidity. From an analytical point of view, this wine does flaunt that much-needed inner crispness. It adds focus and sharpness to the layers of dark, succulent fruit that appear on first nose.

I loved it.

Vinous (90)

The 2015 Barolo Rocche dell'Annunziata is an attractive, gracious La Morra Barolo that will drink well right out of the gate. Sweet tobacco, cedar, mint, crushed flowers and sweet dried cherry are all nicely lifted. Readers will find a translucent, ethereal Barolo that is all about perfume and silkiness. I would prefer to drink it over the next handful of years, give or take.
