Vinous (92)The 2019 Chardonnay Marena bristles with coastal energy and tension. Citrus peel, white flowers, chalk, white pepper and mint are finely sculpted in this gorgeous appellation-level Chardonnay from Ceritas. Aeration brings out gorgeous depth and resonance. All the elements are so well balanced. The Marena is a blend from a south-facing block at Zephyr planted with Clone 4 Chardonnay and the thin canopy sections at Heintz, where the fruit is more exposed, in other words all fruit that is a bit more forward and generous than what is used in the vineyard designate bottlings. |

Vinous (91-93)The 2018 Chablis Vaillons 1er Cru, blended from six parcels, is pure, focused and taut, all while expressing the natural richness of the year. Lemon confit, white flowers, white pepper, mint and a kiss of French oak add striking aromatic top notes to match the wine's linear, energetic feel. Wine Advocate (98+)The 2021 Chardonnay Isobel Charles Heintz Vineyard is the 20th bottling of a Heintz Vineyard Chardonnay at DuMOL. It was harvested September 25-27, matured in larger barrels and finished with six months in stainless steel. "There are very few better vintages of this," winemaker Andy Smith exclaims during our tasting, and I have to agree. It's bursting with scents of matchstick, chamomile, Greek yogurt and white peach, and over time, it unfurls unique spicy, herbal undertones. The palate is intensely concentrated, boasting expansive, dynamic flavors that segue from stone fruit to honey. Satiny and seamless, it has a tremendously long finish with mind-altering depth of flavor. Wine Advocate (93+)Aromas of ripe peaches, pears and almond paste preface the 2018 Chablis Grand Cru Bougros, a full-bodied, ample and blocky wine that's quite structured and reserved by the standards of this often-extroverted climat, displaying a layered mid-palate that's framed by a generous endowment of chewy dry extract. Hailing from the esteemed, family-owned winery in the heart of Chablis, this captivating offering exemplifies the regional terroir brimming with mineral complexity and vivacity. A product of old vineyards, some originating as far back as 1934, this distinguished vintage was intentionally harvested on the cusp of ripeness to reflect the exceptional quality on which Bessin's reputation rests. Painstakingly vinified using indigenous yeasts, the wine lumbers in old French oak barrels for a year, embracing a balance of freshness and softness. The final result is nothing short of spectacular: Jean-Claude Bessin Chablis VV 2021 entices with vibrant lemon, apple notes, nuanced by creamy richness and finishing with an echo of flint-like minerality. An unrivalled addition to any discerning collection, this wine is an ode to Chablis’ traditional winemaking heritage, bringing forth a sublime sensory experience. |

James Suckling (99)A mix of juicy red and black berries and earthy, woody spice on the nose. Medium-bodied with such depth, balance and precision. Succulent black fruit and ripe red berries are carried by fine tannins, along with fresh mint, pine and dried roses. Fine-tuned precision and refinement. Phenomenal wine. Drink or hold. |

Vinous (90-93)The 2018 Chablis Vaillons 1er Cru is another wine in this range with quite a bit of promise. Exotic and tropical, with terrific depth, the 2018 has a lot to offer, even if it is clearly an adolescent today. |

It's an impressive but muscular example of the vintage. |
