Guy Breton Morgon VV 2019 (12x75cl)
Inc. VAT: £380.14
2019

Guy Breton Morgon VV 2019 (12x75cl) 80 years old bush vines. The concentration and precision of fruit is remarkable - sweet cranberry, blackcurrant and black cherry. The nose is suggestive of a forest during summertime, with scent of wild flowers and violets, liquorice, mint, fern and hummus. Beautifully balanced, the acidity adding freshness to the fruits and the velvety texture adding charms to the savoury notes. A complete wine that has many years of interesting evolution ahead of it, but which is fully opened already.

2019

Jean Foillard Morgon Cote Du Py 2019 (12x75cl)

James Suckling (95)

An intensely mineral expression of Beaujolais that makes a good argument for this region, matching the (well known) terroir expression of Burgundy. As pure and focused as it is concentrated with a very long finish that’s all wet stones. Great aging potential! Drink or hold.

Jean Foillard Morgon Cuvee 3.14 2016 (12x75cl)

Wine Advocate (95+)

The 2016 Morgon Cuvée 3.14 is a beautiful wine in the making, unfurling in the glass with scents of rose petals, blood orange, sweet wild berries, smoked meats and some subtly reductive top notes that dissipate in the glass. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, velvety and enveloping, with a deeper and more reserved profile than Foillard's dramatic 2016 Côte du Py, underpinned by succulent acids and framed by powdery tannins. Right now, the gap between the two cuvées isn't hugely pronounced, but I expect it to open up as time passes and the more concentrated but equally well-balanced 3.14 begins to unwind.

2018

Jean-Marc Burgaud Morgon Cote Py 2018 (12x75cl)

Wine Advocate (94)

The 2018 Morgon Côte du Py derives from both higher-altitude and lower-lying parcels, and it is a great success this year, offering up a lovely bouquet of dark fruits, cherries, smoked meat and licorice. On the palate, it's full-bodied, ample and layered, with a fleshy and concentrated core, fine girdling tannins and succulent acids, concluding with a long and sapid finish.

2016

Louis Jadot Chateau des Jacques Morgon Cote du Py 2016 (3x150cl)

Wine Advocate (92)

This was a very creditable performance from the 2016 Morgon Côte du Py, a medium to full-bodied, concentrated wine with tangy acids and an attractive bouquet of blackberries, wild berries and cracked black pepper. Though affected, yields were less impacted by hail in Morgon than in Moulin-à-Vent, and the wine is a bit more classic in profile as a result.

Louis-Claude Desvignes Morgon Cote du Py Javernieres 2018 (12x75cl)

Wine Advocate (95)

Desvignes's 2018 Morgon Côte du Py Javernières is superb, bursting from the glass with a captivating bouquet of violets, raspberries, dark chocolate and smoky blackberries. On the palate, it's full-bodied, velvety and layered, with a deep and multidimensional core, succulent acids and powdery tannins. Beautifully balanced and structurally refined despite its power and concentration, this is worth a special effort to seek out.

Marcel Lapierre Morgon 2018 (6x75cl)

Vinous (94)

Glistening ruby. Mineral-inflected red/blue fruits on the assertively perfumed nose, along with incense, exotic spices and fresh flowers. Alluringly sweet and penetrating, offering intense boysenberry and raspberry flavors braced by juicy acidity. Fine-grained tannins add spine to a wonderfully long, sappy finish that strongly repeats the floral and mineral notes.

Wine Advocate (93)

The 2017 Morgon Les Charmes is excellent, wafting from the glass with notes of sweet cherries, raspberries, grilled meat and earthy spices. On the palate, it’s medium to full-bodied, deep and layered, with a juicy core of fruit, considerable savory nuance and a long, stony finish.
